Exactly. This should be the end of the argument. We are always told to be slow on the whistle. That wasn't the case here.

Auburn only won because the ref screwed up.
I thought it was because we scored 30 points while Arky only scored 28.

Typical SEC officiating cop out. A bunch of bullshite to cover a crap call. Arkansas won the game and got screwed by an incompetent crew that didn’t have the guts to make the right call.

Lol. I’m sorry you didn’t better enjoy watching your first football game.
The rules are the rules. Don’t like the rules? Be Nick Saban and change them. There is no scenario here where Arkansas “won the game”. The ball was not recovered in the IMMEDIATE football action following the fumble. Play was blown dead. Ifs and buts, candies and nuts, if my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle. Arkansas lost.

The ball was never recovered period. This is what I don’t get. Everyone gave up. An Arkansas player jumped on it but then fumbled it again, he never had possession. Both sides gave up.
If Arkansas had the ball as the SEC stated it would be different. Worst case the fg should have been from longer.

In other words, bullshite

It's a terrible injustice that Bo Nix isn't forced to give a long ESPN interview while wearing a dunce hat.

The whistle definitely effected the recovery of the ball. I know there is a screenshot of an Arkansas player laying on the ball, but that was not immediate. Immediately after the spike attempt, #7 for Arkansas came sliding in and knocked the ball away from our RB. That was the opportunity for the clear and obvious recovery. However, The ball was then knocked backwards towards one of our receivers who might have gone more aggressively after the ball if the refs had not been blowing their whistle. You can see too that #26 for Arkansas wasn’t going after the live ball directly in front of him either because the refs had blown it dead. Give credit to #7, he was the only one going after the ball like it was live, but we have no idea how it would have played out if the refs had not blown the whistle.
Look I would be mad too if I was an Arkansas fan, but let’s not pretend like the game was stolen from them. They had a chance to get a first down and end the game, and didn’t. They had a chance to get a better punt off. They had a chance to not let us run the ball to FG range, and block the kick. They were almost bailed out by a fluke fumble, but a rouge whistle prevented that from playing out.

An official I know says the whistle was blown in anticipation of what was about to happen instead of what actually happened. This should NEVER be the case. My friend, whom I mentioned and quoted in another post said that emphasis NO. 1 in every seminar which referees are required to attend each Summer is to NEVER blow the whistle too soon. It's much easier and much more fair to not blow the whistle until the play is clearly over because the officials can always refer to replays and officials meetings on the field to accrue more information to come to a correct consensus. Just admit the official prematurely shot his load and AU should have lost the game and we'll trudge on. Thank God y'all have Morris and we don't.

Nothing was stolen. What clearly happened was that ignorance of the rules of football occurred and the anticipation of a spiked (clocked) ball was the causal agent. Ever see laterals on swing passes into the flat and no player immediately goes for the ball and the referee holds his mud and doesn't blow his whistle ? At which point the defense dashes and recovers the ball or picks the ball up and returns the lateral for a TD ? And yes that's the rule now in college football as well as the NFL. If you are a football official, you clearly showed your ignorance for a job you cash a check for doing. THE WHISTLE IS NEVER TO BE BLOWN BASED ON PLAYERS REACTIONS or LACK THEREOF.

There would have been no fg. Spike was a 0:28. Play it out to recovery takes several more seconds, then AU has to run the FG team out on the field, the ref has to spot the ball, and they have to get the play off. It wasn’t happening no matter who recovered.

The biggest issue here, that nobody seems to be understanding, is that the SEC still hasnt admitted to botching the play. They made a BS statement, which was completely wrong, to try to calm the situation. If they had admitted they screwed up and sent us an apology letter, which we have file cabinets full of since joining this corrupt arse conference, it wouldnt reek of corruption as it does now. No, SEC, nobody did anything correct in that play except the players that continued to attempt to recover the ball
