Damn right I did. Y’all are going to win a lot of games, a lot of tier 2 bowls, and have a whole lot of 10 wins seasons under Richt 2.0. But no natty’s. It’s just not in your DNA. It would be easier to be a team that either never has a shot or only occasionally does. But UGA has all of the elements to compete for the natty every year and win 2-4 per decade. But doesn’t. I hate UGA and hate losing to UGA. But getting dumped by the hottest girl in school right before prom, every. single. year. It’s got to be tough. And every year that passes, 1980 with its big hair, and neon lights, and synthesized disco music...seems further and further away. 40 years man. I wouldn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

The proper call on replay was “After review, the quarterback made a backwards pass with no immediate recovery of a dead ball. Auburn will retain possession where the ball stopped, and play will resume on my whistle”

This exactly. The reviewer decided it was an incomplete pass when, in fact, it was a backwards pass and therefore a lateral and a fumble. The clock should have been running but instead Auburn was allowed to calmly trot their field goal unit out onto the field and kick it with no added pressure.

I need the raging guy behind the smiley mask pic for a lot of the Auburn posters in this thread. A thin team that has already been wrecked by injuries just came into JHS and punched their team square in the mouth and it took a blown call to save the game for them.

They know the rest of the season isn't going to be pretty. To quote one of the Auburn posters "We won in a manner that made us look fricking retarded"

So where do you spot it? The refs blew the play dead immediately. Do you spot it where the ball came to rest........after the Arky player muffed it several yards from where it was first touched?

Even if that is what you do............the clock stopped for review so Auburn had time to set up for the FG, which is exactly what happened. The ref would have started the clock, which is exactly what happened.

The only difference in this scenario is a running clock. Clearly they were going to have to sort things out so a running clock after placing a bowl ready for play and blowing the whistle… And at that point, auburn had nearly 30 seconds to bring the field-goal team out on the field. Who knows with a slightly different flap of a butterfly’s wings if Auburn would have missed or not…, But he’s not wrong about the running clock

We were missing our best defensive player, starting middle linebacker (after having two linebackers opt out of the season), are starting corner, our starting LT and our starting running back (although I think Tank just won that job). Both teams were beat up…and your running back was a baller that might just be your new starter too

You spot it where it initially landed.

This needs to be changed. Both units should be required to huddle on the sidelines and not be allowed to run onto the field until the ref whistles for the play clock to start.

The whistle has no effect of there is a clear and immediate recovery... Which there was.

This is 100% false. The whistle there killed the play. Any other action involving the football was null and void b/c the play was dead. It was for all intents & purposes an inadvertent whistle.

Football philosophy says that the whistle should only be a reminder that the ball is dead. We are supposed to let the play kill itself. That didn't happen here.

I know Arkansas fans aren't happy and understandably so, but the explanation makes sense.

And I am an official, and as an official, there is nothing worse than an inadvertent whistle. But its happened to all of us at one point.

You are correct in high school football and lower division college football with no replay.

With replay, continuation is allowed. Rules are 100% different with games with replay.

Dead Ball and Loose Ball
ARTICLE 3. Reviewable plays involving potential dead balls and loose balls include:
a. Loose ball by a potential passer ruled a fumble.
b. Loose ball by a passer ruled incomplete forward pass when there is clear recovery in the immediate continuing action after the loose ball.
1. If the replay official does not have indisputable video evidence as to which team recovers, the ruling of incomplete pass stands.
2. If the replay official rules fumble, the ball belongs to the recovering team at the spot of the recovery and any advance is nullified.
c. Live ball not ruled dead in possession of a ball carrier.
d. Loose ball ruled dead (Rule 4-1-2-b-2), or live ball ruled dead in possession of a ball carrier, when the clear recovery of a loose ball occurs in the immediate continuing football action.
1. If the ball is ruled dead and the replay official does not have indisputable video evidence as to which team recovers, the dead-ball ruling stands.
2. If the replay official rules that the ball was not dead, it belongs to the recovering team at the spot of the recovery and any advance is nullified.

The whistle was the incompetent mistake.
Arkansas was once again on the wrong end of a badly botched job by officials.
Happens to every team sometimes though.
Bottom line is, we had a chance to put the game away before that fiasco, and should have.
Our players will learn from it.

Difference being you guys actually have some talent behind those guys. It's why our special teams is so bad. We are probably pulling kids out of the stands to cover and block for punts.

So they admit the refs screwed up and gave Auburn the win.

Refs have been helping Auburn quite a bit lately. Last year's Iron Bowl, Kentucky and now Arkansas.

I'm not sure about that. An early whistle kills the play, regardless of level.

It’s in the rules posted above.

It’s literally the following scenario as well which happens quite often...QB throws a hitch to WR in boundary that goes backwards...WR drops it, whistle blows but defense recovers on continuation of play...Goes to review and defensive team is awarded ball.

It’s literally the same scenario. It’s reviewed all the time. Whistles also blow on fumbles in games with replay all the time. Defense is awarded the ball. Officials will save face at times by saying forward progress was stopped on a RB fumble.

Only because immediate wrongly whistle blowing ensued
Yep. Should be no whistle when there’s a loose ball until it is recovered.
