Why does ABC try to get cute and mix it up by airing a non-SEC game from time to time? This week they are showing Miami @ Clemson and I guarantee you it will underperform in viewership compared to normal.

Since 2024, here are the stats combining the Early, Afternoon, and Primetime Slots for regular season matchups:

SEC vs SEC games (65): Averaging 6.78 million viewers per game

OOC vs SEC games (20): Averaging 5.99 million viewers per game

Non-SEC games (8): Averaging 3.37 million viewers per game

It's obvious fans want to see SEC teams play.

The 7 lowest rated games on ABC since 2024 (out of 93 total) all involved a non-SEC team.

Worst Viewership Games on ABC (2024-2026):

2.73 mil- UCLA at LSU
2.59 mil- Syracuse at Tennessee
2.20 mil- Miami at Pittsburgh
2.11 mil- Arkansas at Memphis
1.96 mil- Duke at Miami
1.95 mil- NC State at Clemson

IMO it's one of the issues with the SEC coming out with their "kickoff windows" before the season even starts

IMO the Mississippi State vs Bama game should be a prime time game, either on ABC or ESPN

Miss St vs Bama at 11AM is definitely doesn't make sense.

The time window was chosen a long time ago before Miss St was thought to be good.

Like way back in June it was given an early kickoff slot, between 11am-12pm.

Then it was finalized this past week as well as it being shown on ABC.

It makes perfect sense when you realize that ABC has to select the TV windows in the preseason.

In the preseason, Miami vs Clemson looked to be the best option.

Bama was expected to be down and MS State was not expected to be what they are at all.

Florida @ Mizzou wasn’t expected to be huge, either, with Florida having a new coach and Mizzou being Mizzou.

ABC went with the “safe” pick of National Champ runner-up Miami vs what they hoped could be a resurgent Clemson with Dabo.

It does when everyone preseason thought MSU was going to suck and it would be a Bama blowout. They should not have mandated kickoff times preseason, even though it benefits LSU a lot.
