Yeah I don’t think there will be many ags coming on here and defending our beautiful campus. It has a charm that we love though.
Blocker is gone thank god. Same with university tower. The new builds are very nice. The campus as a whole looks nothing like when I was there.

Austin is not a college town

It’s definitely a college town. The town thrives off the college

South Carolina campus had some nice parts from what I remember, but Colombia is still some arse

Not counting Athens (which is #1 BTW)...
Let me preface this to say that I like a college TOWN feel... so just because Austin and Nashville have a lot to offer, doesn't mean they are necessarily better.
BEST TOWNS:
1. Fayetteville
2. Auburn
3. Oxford
4. Columbia, MO
5. Nashville
6. Austin
7. Knoxville
8. Norman
9. Tuscalooosa
10. Lexington
11. Columbia, SC
12. Baton Rouge
13. Gainesville
14. College Station
15. Starkville
**Austin of 5 years ago would be ranked higher. The last time I was there I literally had to step over homeless people just to get around. Place is taking a serious nosedive.

I graduated from OU and my wife (no pics) graduated from LSU. She has no problem at all admitting that OU’s campus is significantly more attractive than LSU’s.

Columbia is a regrettable stain on the otherwise beautiful state of South Carolina.

Isn't Athens liberal/hipster?
yeah, there's definitely a hipster crowd but they help add character if anything, they aren't in your face about it. They aren't the kind of liberals who make 100k and say they are oppressed like you might see in Austin if that makes sense.

It truly is the worst part. Greenville is a great, great big town. Charleston is world class. And everything in between is not very impressive.

I've done summer research in a collaborator's lab at OU. The area between Lindsey and Boyd are very nice. LSU get's most of its praise due to the abundance of mature oak trees. My biggest gripe with the LSU campus is the lack of cohesion with the architecture. For example, look at how out of place the Library looks in the quad. Also, the way the state defers maintenance to the point where they push to just build a new building instead of completing easy repairs and updates.

OU has a nice campus with a SMALL adjacent bar/restaurant area that is pretty good. Otherwise Norman is a strip mall suburb of OKC

So military...imagine a bunch of social security offices

It is impossible to compare the cities unless you group them together by size.
Large Cities
Nashville and Austin. Both are crap now.
Austin was the best place on the planet from 1980-2005 but that star has fallen over the last 15 years.
Nashville was once a great city and still has its good parts but has declined as well.
Medium Cities: Knoxville, Baton Rouge, Columbia, Lexington
Of these Lexington is easily the best. Knoxville & BR are crap. Columbia is kind of in a middle.
Small growing cities:,Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, Fayetteville, Athens, College Station, Columbia MO
Athens is cool and Fayetteville is as well. Gainesville is crap. All these cities are growing fast and are losing their charm or have already lost it.
True College Towns:
Oxford, Starkvegas, Auburn
These three still have charm but they are experiencing tremendous growth and will probably soon be more like the above brethren.
Don’t know about:
Norman
