General Neyland clears Shug

Neyland was hospitalized with a heart attack on the 1950s. Somehow games were scheduled with Auburn starting in 1956 or so.

Neyland was mad at whoever scheduled the game.

From that time to SEC expansion in 1992, Auburn and Tennessee played every year. It was always the first big game on the schedule in my youth.

It is very hard to only pick 4...you could have an argument for 15 easily. I will try.

Bear Bryant
Vince Dooley
Adolph Rupp

The fourth can be any of these
Nick Saban
Steve Spurrier
Skip Bertman
Robert Neyland
J Calipari
etc

As in John Calipari? Not sure how he’d even be on the list, certainly not over Billy Donovan.

That’s wild leaving nick saban off, the best coach, in the most important sec sport(by a pretty damn wide margin) and your just like maybe

These coaches changed the landscape and were legendary in their sport.

There were some schools that emphasized track & field in the old days. Villanova, Oregon. LSU. Even UTEP in cross country. But Arkansas piling up national and conference titles made people change their programs. Alabama didn't have much of a distance program until Coach Mac arrived and made AD's take notice. Now Oklahoma and Alabama are loading up with Kenyans.

I'm pleasantly surprised you would give Dooley a nod for the top 3 spot, but speaking realistically he doesn't belong anywhere near the list. In fact one could make somewhat of an argument he is only the 3rd best football coach in UGA history.
