Athens proper is full. The growth is in the surrounding areas of Oconee Co (Watkinsville) and Oglethorpe and Madison and Jackson counties. It's exploding.

you started the same thread twice.

No, I didn't. Read the title of each thread more carefully. One thread has to do with SEC metropolitan areas whereas the other thread has to do with only the city proper each SEC school is located in. Two very different things.

It wasn't a dipshit, it was a publication that had Starkville as the best small town in the south.

No, it was a dipshit here.
And that "publication" was probably Podunk Monthly.

How in the world is StarkVegas only at 25k and HOW ARE THEY DECREASING?!

Obviously I’ve never been, but good gracious how is an SEC school not pumping up the local economy to some level of growth when it’s that small?

Baton Rouge is a shithole

But Tuscaloosa is by far the second biggest shitholes in the SEC in terms of crime and that element from the feel of the city to me

Not sure why I thought Columbia was bigger than that.

Starkville is certainly growing, not shrinking. There are new condos and new houses going up in several places. I talked to a Starkville alderman last year and she stated population was nearly 27,000. There's also about a 1000 new jobs coming to nearby Golden Triangle Industrial Megaplex which will give Starkville's population and additional boost.

East Baton Rouge Parish is still growing. Baton Rouge city government and EBR Parish government are merged. The new "city" of St. George is still part of EBR Parish government and we will still pay taxes to EBR Parish. When the residents of St George see what it will cost them to create and maintain a school district, they won't vote for it. PLUS, the entire parish will have to vote to approve a new school district not just voters in St George.

Most K-12 kids in St George attend private/Catholic schools. Almost 59% of kids in K-12 in EBR Parish attend private schools and it has been that way for decades.

Baton Rouge Magnet High School is far superior academically to any public high school in or around Tuscaloosa County, AL.

Tuscaloosa certainly has its fair share of shitty areas and the crime rate overall leaves a lot to be desired. Despite all that the city itself has managed to grow faster than any other SEC city percentage wise from 2020 to 2023 so it doesn't seem to have the same "feel" in 2023 to the additional 11,738 people that the city has added since 2020.

Within the Austin city limits I get it, but the area between Austin and San Antonio has to be the fastest growing region in the nation

There are tons of Louisiana/LSU people in all of Baldwin County. It used to surprise me, but then again, Louisiana has no beaches or touristy areas.

Nick Saban made the state and city a better place to live because of football. Without that, it would just be a shittier version of Mississippi.

I’m no fan of Alabama, but over the last decade they have done far better than Louisiana at bringing in new industry and federal jobs. They’ve rebranded a bit in the northern part of the state.

Louisiana has not improved much of anything over the same period.
