There's AT LEAST 4 kinds of BBQ in the Carolina's alone.

point still stands, much more Texas bbq places popping up outside of Texas, than there are Carolina places popping up outside of the Carolinas, etc.

I have yet to try ABBQ in Atlantic Beach, but my understanding, from some folks who have had it, is it is not really Texas style like you are probably thinking. Other than brisket it’s your standard pulled pork, pork ribs, and turkey. It’s really a marketing gimmick to try and distinguish itself from other bbq joints around here.
There’s a few places in Jax that claim a Texas style in that they include brisket, but I very much doubt you’d approve.

And there are more McDonalds that fine dining restaurants in the US, but that doesn't make them better...

Whether or not we approve isnt really the point, you are probably right that we wouldnt. And whether it really is Texas style or not isnt the point.
The point is tons of new places opening up use some sort of marketing/slogan of "Texas style bbq" because many people have realized we know what we are doing down here. As they say: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery....

That’s my point, at least around here, it’s just to seem to be different, novelty is attractive. I think it is less to do with everyone wanting Texas style bbq and more that the existing joints have got the existing style down pat, so if you’re going to break in you either need to have a different concept or, more easily, claim that you do regardlesss.

Hard to beat quality Ribs/ or pulled pork. Texas seems to do Beef better and the rest of the south seems to do pork better. IMO it’s easier to frick up Brisket

My main problem with pulled pork- and if you don’t do this you are GREAT in my book- the problem is the place that pre sauces the meat. Let me taste the product for myself and then decide how much, if any, sauce I want to use.
A good brisket needs nothing by way of a sauce.
*good crispy pork skin off a whole hog is magical.

Then it ain't chili. It's a tasty dish. Just chili.

That's just the predominant sauces. All Carolina BBQ styles are either whole hog or pork shoulder for the meat and are cooked similarly other than the sauce type. Most carolina bbq places offer all of them. I prefer light tomato and heavy tomato sauces myself even though I live in the Mustard area. Most places have four (or even 5 if they have a memphis sauce) sauces available.

o all the Texans, this is the SEC Rant, the appropriate BBQ accompaniment to football is pork based. Chicken, turkey, beef are all nice “and alsos”. So let’s not even pretend that Austin is the best BBQ city in the world.
I would agree with your assertion. Brisket is pretty good but pork will always be the King of BBQ meats.

Shiiid...You ever had Arthur Bryant's in KC, or Sugarfire or Pappy's in STL?. If that ain't BBQ, I don't know what is.

Yes, lived in KC area for 5 years. It was okay, but overall inconsistent.
Decades ago it was probably legit. It is living on reputation only now. Nothing to write home about.
Just saying.

Mutton if you are old school!

Mutton is often forgotten about when discussing meat and BBQ. But it’s good. Sign me up.

Not enough downvotes to give. Mutton/lamb tastes like sheep and goats smell. No matter how well prepared, there is always one or more funky bites that ruin it for me.

Eating a good old fashioned AMERICAN pulled pork BBQ sandwich as we type. Just the way God intended.

If you are ever in Western KY, mutton is popular. Before the 1980's the state of KY was the major hub for sheep and lambs (all those Scots and Irish settlers arriving in the 1700's and 1800's). Long but interesting History of sheep in KY read if you are interested.
