ETA: For Bama folks, that means you winning at another team's "home" venue is worth more in the NET than at a neutral site.

Yes, we get how NET works (and RPI before that).

Isn't the rule that if it's played within a certain amount of miles of your campus (10 or 15 or something) that it counts as a home game? They may have changed that.
Learn something new every day. What a smart neutral-neutral series by Auburn. You get credit for an away game without having to play in an away environment in year 1, then play a "neutral" game in Birmingham that will be overwhelmingly in your favor in year 2.

Yep - not sure if it just worked out that way or not but definitely a good deal for them.

Fertitta is in the Houston area (where UH is from) and Alabama (obviously) is from outside of Houston.
I think I remember during the broadcast the announcers said the Toyota Center was about 2 miles from the UH campus. Probably still a 30 minute drive with Houston traffic

Didn’t mean to sound condescending, just know some here may not know.

Calling those games neutral seems pretty generous towards MSU, Alabama and Ole Miss.

We play Houston next year in Birmingham?

It's a technicality but it's how the NET formula views them. As was noted above, if you play in the same "metro" as your school, it's a home game (your arena or not). If you play outside of it it is a neutral - even if it's in a city in your state.

Seattle is neutral for Gonzaga. Charlotte is neutral for UNC/Duke. Birmingham is neutral for Alabama. Nashville is neutral for Tennessee. Etc.

Yep

Auburn’s men’s basketball team will get an early test this coming season as it heads to Houston’s Toyota Center to take on the Houston Cougars on Nov. 9, Auburn announced Thursday.

The Tigers and Cougars will also meet the following season, with the 2025-26 matchup being played at Birmingham’s Legacy Arena.

Is there no semi-Home/semi-Neutral marker? I see on KenPom he has a semi-Home designation for games like those which seems to make more sense.

If I remember correctly the NET only has Home, Neutral, Away and then the Quad Buckets (and rating metrics) work with those modifiers.

Now, NET uses the equivalent of KenPom, and KenPom uses it to modify his stats for home/away, so in a way it is included. But not at a "how much credit do you get for a win/loss due to away/home/neutral/semi-neutral".

I will not accept this since we are higher at #47 in kenpom

Our games against ALST and Charleston Southern especially not helping us much.

Gigantic game tomorrow against Pitt though

I call it smart scheduling. And State isn’t done with it this year. They play a game in Jackson and a game in Tupelo that will count as neutral site games.

My understanding is that Utah agreed to the Southaven game because State is giving them a return game in SLC next year…. But it will be in the Jazz’s arena so will technically count as a neutral site game for Utah.

Yea but see that falls under the same thing as Houston playing at the Rockets arena. Utah is in SLC so it will count for them as a home game.

@ #3 Houston (Auburn)

So Auburn's played the best opponent... and basically no one else?

Not that it will stay that way - I know their OOC schedule still has some great games left, just kinda weird to see them at the top... and then nowhere else on the list.

There are folks here who haven't figured out how punctuation marks work.

I think you're giving some of them a bit too much credit.

They played 2 pretty solid mid majors - Vermont is #138 and Kent State is #140. Their other game was UNA and they aren't terrible, either (#162).

And coming up they have
#6 Iowa State
#13 UNC/#39 Dayton
TBD
@ #2 Duke
#23 Ohio State
#20 Purdue
