They need to have a certain amount of SEC teams have the option of not playing in the SEC tournament.

It's a meaningless tournament to every team except bubble teams. Whether that be tournament bubble, hosting bubble, or national seed bubble

If you lose in the tournament and make it out of the regionals, nobody remembers that you lost in the tournament

For a national seed? No.
For any of the other 8-10 teams in the tournament in a given year? Absolutely.
That trophy goes in the case and you brag on it, regardless.
