Exactly. Go to 16. Get rid of conference champ games.

First two rounds played at home.

The SEC and Big 10 should just form their own playoff. Scrap the conference title games, and have the two teams that would have been there play their counterparts from the other conference in round 1 in the Sugar and Rose Bowls Winners play for the title at a neutral site rotating between Big 10 and SEC territory.

For example, this year would have been UGA (1) v Penn St (2) in the Sugar Bowl and Texas (2) v Oregon (1) in the Rose Bowl. Winners would have played in Atlanta or Indy.

What about team 129?

Just add play-in games like MARCH MADNESS.

There are only a half dozen teams with the athletes to win a national championship in football. In a non-contact sport like basketball you can have one or two guys get hot and upset anybody.

Someone has to explain to me why ND essentially gets to schedule their team a playoff spot every year.

It’s disgusting everyone else is expected to play a tough schedule and fight for a playoff spot while ND is allowed to do as they please and guarantee a spot.

Sankey is an embarrassment. Things have gone off the rails with him in charge.

Army or Navy could potentially make a 12 team playoff. They were both on the fringe, this year.

Would be more fun the what we are doing. Even back to East-West would be an improvement.

Once upon a time there were some goats living in a field. This field lay alongside a stream, and on the other side of the stream there was another field similar in size to the one that the goats lived in. Now, the field that the goats lived in was full of grass and they had plenty to eat, but every day the goats would look across the stream to the other field and they would say to each other, "Look at the grass over there! It looks so much greener than the grass here. If only we could get over the stream, we could go and live there, and just think how happy we would be!" But there was no bridge so the goats had no way to get across the stream to the field on the other side.

Now, it so happened that one night there was a storm, and during the storm a tree was blown down by the wind and it fell across the stream. When the goats arose the next morning and saw that there was a now a way for them to cross the stream and go to the other field, they were overjoyed and they all ran across as fast as their little hooves could carry them, and they all frolicked and romped and ate the grass in their new field and told each other how delicious it was and how much better it was than the grass in their old field. Meanwhile, over the course of the morning the stream built up behind the fallen tree, until finally the pressure became too great and the tree was washed away downstream.

Now after some days had passed the goats became tired of the grass in their new field, and they began to say to each other, "Oh, how happy we were in our old field! And how good and delicious the grass was there! Look, see how green it is! If only there were some way for us to cross the stream, we would gladly go back and live there and be happy forever." But there was no bridge so the goats had no way to get across the stream to the field on the other side.

Much as the current generation likes to believe that we are so much smarter than all the generations of people that lived before us, it turns out that our ancestors were actually pretty smart and we are kind of a bunch of idiots, and they are probably laughing their ghost asses off at us from the afterlife.

They should go to 6 teams. This year was a joke. Sorry, but the fourth place team in a conference shouldn't be winning the title.

Sad state of affairs when the NFL is better than college football.

I will defend Sankey one time. If it wasnt for Sankey football would not have played in 2020. It took other conferences following his lead.

Games mean nothing, Ohio State can lose to Oregon and get its soul crushed in the final regular seaaon game against a 7-5 Michigan, and this means nothing now because they were 1 hot streak away from a natty.

Whether it's 12, or 14, if the overall ranking isn't the most important metric of getting rewarded, what's changed?

The number of teams might create more confusion, but only because playoff seeding has little to do with overall ranking.

Ohio State had a great team, but the awesomeness of CFB was that every regular season game mattered. It is why I'd stay up to watch College Football Final after doing Kegs and Eggs at 8AM before an Jefferson Pilot kick off. Because USC slipping up at Corvalis or Tempe meant they'd drop out of the top 2 and another team would have a shot.

Now, "oh, Indiana lost the only game they played vs. someone worth a frick and Ohio State didn't beat their rival nor play in their CCG but they'll be in the playoff so why does your conference championship really matter or even beating your rival really matter?"

Those things used to be the steps to a great season: beat your rivals, win your conference, have a shot at the national championship. Now you can easily win the national championship without accomplishing the prerequisite steps.

I love March madness because the nature of basketball allows for much more parity which leads to upsets every year.

I can't see that in college football where mismatches are just mismatches.

Tell me how 4 slots for 5 conferences (with the possibility of a single conference taking multiple slots) makes ANY kind of sense when, at least, 1 conference is omitted EACH year.

Looks like GS IS trying to put the SEC 1st by trying for 4(+) SEC teams in the p/o.

What would you like him to do…make the p/o ONLY for the SEC?
