Something significant would need to happen on the field (bad blood, regular top-10 matchups, etc) for it to become a legit rivalry. There's just no history and, aside from one particular obsessed SC poster here, a stunning indifference between the programs. Hell, I actually like them.

This rivalry is more forced than the LSU vs Texas A&M rivalry.

You mean a "rivalry" between two teams that have never faced each other is forced?

Nothing gets past you!

If you only discovered football in the late 90s, sure.

It had to be forced so y'all wouldn't quit on them again.

This must all be very threatening to you for some reason. Otherwise, why would you obviously give such a massive frick?

Kind of nice to have the pot sweetened with some hardware at stake!

Dammit UK (and any UT objectors out there). I know what happened was awful and I agreed with stopping the presentation of the Keg as it seemed appropriate due to timing of when the deaths occurred but not only was the trophy unrelated to that terrible tragedy and a part of our long history but it was also important. Nothing represented our two states better considering our respective friendly war over whiskey versus bourbon and that those industries are what we're known for around the world.

Bring back the Keg and bring back the tradition of it being given to BOTH the football and then basketball victor. Things haven't been the same without it. And the keg even managed to survive Prohibition! We're allowing generic trophies to show us up - we don't even have that anymore.

Meh. Real rivalries don't have trophies.

Agreed. Even UT-BAMA has a 'trophy' of sorts. The winner gets Victory Cigars and smokes them in the locker room. It's technically an NCAA violation these days but both teams just self-report it and the NCAA doesn't really care since it's a tradition/minor infraction. UT-UK had a trophy that went back ages and needs to return (a DUI incident that killed UK players just before the game was the reason we stopped it but it was hardly related to the Keg and needs to come back).
