LSU was a mediocre program till Saban arrived. They still rarely beat Alabama.
They went 4-1 against Bama during Saban’s time at LSU andneat them an additional 3 years in a row after he’d left from 2005-2007. He made a big difference.
Ironically, he’s also the one who ended LSU’s winning ways against Bama and brought back the old trend of losing to them starting in 2008.

So it took the greatest coach ever in college football to beat a probation riddled Mike Shula team.
And 6-14 vs Alabama since he left LSU, including 2-12 in the last 14 games.
Congratulations.

You can make all the excuses you want, but all my post was doing is pointing out that Saban was indeed great at LSU and how important context is.
Actually, your post proves my point because it gives context about how bad LSU has been against Bama except during LSU’s Saban era and the first few years after he left.

This is correct. At LSU he needed to both build his own reputation and the program itself. Facilities were complete trash when he got to LSU and the administration had to be convinced of what it took to win nationally. But he had not yet proven that he was worth the investment. He also had to learn on the job without any prior experience leading anything close to a title contender.
This is spot on. He was beginning to stack elite classes as he would go on to do at Bama. The 03 and 04 recruiting classes were the catalyst of Miles’ 07 title, and it stands to reason Saban ID’ed HS underclassmen who be a part of Miles’ 06 and 07 classes.

No not true at all. Sheesus Christ you poor people are stupid.
Tell you what… I’ll make an actual fact, not an opinion, about a football player that “WAS” there before the 2003 season, that Saban did inherit and even some that played on the team before he got to LSU.
I’ll go first. Your star QB Matt Mauck, the now Dentist of Colorado.
Wut?

First he was practically 35 years old when he started playing football at LSU due to him committing to
Play football for Michigan State and Saban in 1997. After he played minor league baseball (alongside myself) he quit, to go play football at LSU in 1999/2000.
He's only 46 now and this was roughly 25 years ago. You supposedly played with him and don't even know his age.
Yet another example on this board of someone who calls everyone else "stupid" when he's actually the one saying stupid shite.

I love when a dumb frick bama fan talks about quality of living like Tuscaloosa is some oasis. Like people look at Tuscaloosa like some kind of destination trip. Lmao.

I was always under the impression the greatest coach of all time had a better record at LSU. He lost 16 games in 5 seasons and was 3-2 in bowl games. For essentially every two games he won he lost one, in the SEC. What gives? They’ve won the SEC twice in 17 years. How was saban able to always get the best recruits, win a shite ton of titles at Bama but yet outside of one season with Matty Mauk be mediocre at LSU? Why aren’t you better at football?
He was a nobody before he got to LSU. He turned LSU into a powerhouse in just a couple of years. That's why Bama wanted him so bad, dumb arse.

This sounds like some Texas slop where their fans always cry about what if. What if Colt's Shoulder wasn't attached to a crybaby loser who sat out the game afraid of losing NFL money because mean Alabama players were hitting him. Hypotheticals are just that, hypotheticals.
Your posts encourage “hypotheticals” so it’s a bit disingenuous to attack other posters for engaging.
I’ll post the data when I feel up to it, but if you study things closely, I am extremely confident that Saban at LSU long-term would have outperformed Saban at Alabama. Without the ridiculous mulligan in 2011, the national championships become extremely close…with Les Miles running the show.

Umm.. he inherited 25 NFL draft picks !! The fudge you talking about Quarterbacks: Matt Mauck, Marcus Randall, JaMarcus Russell. Running Backs: Joseph Addai, Shyrone Carey. Wide Receivers: Skyler Green, Michael Clayton, Devery Henderson. Offensive Line: Nate Livings, Stephen Peterman, Rodney Reed, Andrew Whitworth, Ben Wilkerson. Defensive Line: Chad Lavalais, Marcus Spears, Kyle Williams. Linebackers: Eric Alexander, Lionel Turner, Cameron Vaughn, Randall Gay. Defensive Backs: Travis Daniels, Jack Hunt, Laron Landry, Corey Webster, Ronnie Prude. Special Teams: Donnie Jones (Punter), Chris Jackson (Kicker).
What a giant horse’s arse you are. He recruited half of that list, you inbred dolt.

Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. never had, at least, a back-to-back 10-win season at LSU. He never had, at least, a back-to-back 10-win season at Michigan State or anywhere else in his career as a head coach, leading to the Mecca of college football.
It took ALABAMA to teach him how to win and sustain it on a level unprecedented in college football history. Here's the result, as if those azz whipping reminders really need reviewing by the SEC.
2008 - 12-2
2009 - 14-0 SEC and NC
2010 - 10-3
2011 - 12-1 NC
2012 - 12-1 SEC and NC
2013 - 11-2
2014 - 12-2 -SEC and Playoff
2015 - 14-1 SEC and NC
2016 - 14-1 SEC and NC Game
2017 - 13-1 NC
2018 - 14-1 SEC and NC game
2019 - 11-2
2020 - 13-0 SEC and NC
2021 - 13-2 SEC and NC game
2022 - 11-2
2023 - 12-3 SEC and Playoffs
Not only does the great Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. have, at least, 15 straight multiple back-to-back 10-win seasons at ALABAMA, but Coach Saban has at least multiple back-to-back 11-win seasons at ALABAMA, he has at least multiple back-to-back 12-win seasons at ALABAMA, he has at least multiple back-to-back 13-win seasons at ALABAMA, and back-to-back 14-win seasons at ALABAMA.
Coach Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. + ALABAMA = Rolling Stones

I’m not saying I disagree with this sentiment. I’m just saying the premise is stupid. The whole point is to say that LSU is an inferior program and he wouldn’t have accomplished anything further at LSU. Which is stupid to assume being as two inferior coaches won championships at LSU.

Yeah 2 SEC titles and a National Championship in 5 years sucks.

It took the greatest program of all time to realize his true potential, it’s that simple. He took LSU as far as he could, 1 title. But at the Capstone, we took him to the moon.
Bro, you're talking BS. You like how your thought looks in print, nothing more, but you have absolutely no idea what your talking about and that goes for the rest of the Bama peanut gallery. Unless, you were intimately involved with LSU athletics back then, remain silent on the subject. You so worng on the Nick Saban and LSU marriage at the time it's laughable.
Saban came to LSU when the program was in the absolute dumps. I beveled the won a total of 5 games in 2 years. He didn't inherit a roster full of superstars like someone mentioned. Those guys came later, but we did have talent some at key positions. Rohan Davey, Domick Davis, Josh Reed, but he was a running back and no one knew about him.
In his first year at LSU, he got the teams and the fans to believe and overcome adversity when times got difficult for the program. His first recruiting class was a thrown bunch of no name and no star kids, but there were a handful of full of diamond that developed under Saban tutelage. We went 8-4 his first year, but back then, it was as good as a 10 win season.
Regardless the losses, lack of depth and experience were the reason for the losses.
By the time Saban left, his roster was absolutely loaded and I personally believe that's why Saban publicly admitted that leaving LSU was his biggest career mistake. I believe he would have had surpassed Bama in National Championship had he stayed at LSU and would have won at minimum 10.
The only reason Saban left and he admits it is that he "thought" he wanted to be an NFL coach.
Faith intervened for Bama and that's how he ended up there. Rich Rodriguez was your guy before he changed his mind and humiliated Bama. If we're going to discuss this matter, let's be honest with each other.

Yeah that 2001 team struggled. Oh wait Rohan just connected with Josh Reed again . I think that’s 300 receiving for Reed. Yeah Saban was only 4-1 against gumps

I love how the Alabama morons in this thread can’t realize that they are shitting on the greatest coach in college football history, and don’t realize what he truly accomplished by trying to shite on LSU.
When Saban was hired at LSU, our program was incredibly behind top football programs in every way.
Saban came to LSU, because he understood that LSU was a sleeping giant that had been severely neglected.
Our facilities were bottom SEC when he got here. He is why our facilities improved tremendously over the next 10 years.
The culture and entire infrastructure of the entire football program was in shambles.
All the best talent in the state had been leaving the state in droves prior to Saban’s arrival.
Saban had to change everything about LSU and to his credit, vision, and amazing abilities as a leader, he changed the entire culture, infrastructure, and foundation of LSU Football. He won the SEC in year 2.
In year 3 our starting QB broke his leg in the 6th game of the season in the 4th quarter in a 30+ point blowout over Florida. That injury caused LSU’s season to go down the tubes as we didn’t have a capable back up.
In Year 4 he won the SEC and National title.
In year 5 he had one eye on college football and another on the NFL.
Apparently you Bama fans don’t know the history behind your legendary coach. He ALWAYS wanted to coach in the NFL. He was itching to be a head coach in the league. After the national championship in 2003, he had his sights set on his career lifetime goal.
Here’s the truth and reality about Nick Saban that most Bama fans won’t give him credit for:
Nick Saban grew as a man, and a coach in the two years as the Dolphins head coach. He re-dedicated himself to his marriage with Ms Terry and realized that he was meant to be, and was a better fit, as a college head coach.
Alabama got the best version of Saban. As a man and a coach. He was content with who he was, with his marriage, and what his true destiny was when he took the job with Alabama. He was still finding himself when he was the coach at LSU.
But… you clowns just troll away and don’t give your legendary coach the true credit the man deserves.

Saban and Bama coming together when they did was a perfect recipe for success. Good coach plus a program that had the bagman system perfected allowing them to get whoever they wanted. LSU, at that time, was not willing to go to the levels it took to win during that era. In the NIL pay for play new college football, there won't be another program that will dominate like Saban did. Now that openly paying players is legal it took away Bama's biggest advantage and ultimately why Saban left the game.
Again, this is your opinion and not based on facts.
When Saban left LSU in December of 2004, he was the highest paid coach in college football and his football facilities were being built.
If you want to know why LSU didn't regress as a program like in the 90s, it was and continues to be the SABAN FACTOR. It was only after leaving Bama and working for ESPN was Saban able to see the promise land aka the Football only facilities that were being built or built after he left.
He loved LSU, but he also loved the idea of being an NFL coach. Him leaving was nothing personal against the fans or LSU.
You believe what you want, but we can pull the tape.
