Saban’s office and constant presence and peering over shoulder would be an issue for me

If I was to come in and try to take the Alabama job, I wouldn’t want the old GOAT sticking too close and meddling. His statements in his interview with Rece Davis probably would have driven me away.

You were definitely candidate #3. Once they found out you couldn't operate under Saban, then they settled for DeBoer.

Bama knew you were paranoid and lacked confidence . Otherwise the job was going to be yours! You probably won’t miss the millions though.

I am sorry the working conditions were not up to your standards. Maybe you can find a job that is a better fit. Good Luck!

Now you just have wait Kirby out. He’ll be too busy in the NFL to meddle.

Why? We know Saban hired coordinators and let them go. Saban has stayed for a year or two at most, to guide the coach in the extracurricular activities like where to speak at and how to create one place t speak to the many that demand time, or advice on recruits in the area or advice on staff to hire he may not know. He wont be getting involved in coaching.

Wasn’t the condition to hire Saban in 2007 that it was his program and nobody would meddle? Ironic that he’s the meddler now

Having Saban catch all of the BMDs at the door, giving advice on organizational leadership, being a welcoming partner in all immediate relationship building with high school coaches…

That would suck for a new head coach!!!!

On the flip side, might be ok to have the "old GOAT" stick around for fundraising and help managing the boosters.
