Your post reminded me to link THIS here. I enjoy that basically anyone who represents a less progressive view on the issue is mocked with "roll tide." Many other parts of the internet has masterfully turned that phrase in to a source of derision.

The relationships between the coach and the players means more to Saban and his players than the school their representing, that's all. It's like when Skyler Green said, before the NC game, that Nick Saban was his coach and that he was pulling for him.

For fans, the allegiance is to the school.

I think it's obvious by now that Saban's in it for the coaching and development of players, and loyalty to one school or another is a bit further down his list of priorities.

I loved the 2003 team--great players, great coaches, incredibly excited fanbase, and a mountain of success. Saban coaching at Bama does nothing to change that.

Oh, and I HATE Alabama with a completely irrational passion that thankfully doesn't affect other areas of my life, But I do appreciate and admire the coaching abilities of Nick Saban and thank him for 2000, 2001, and 2003. Great years for LSU football.

Ha...well then they definitely should have invited you to have some good stories to tell after it was over.

Randall Gay said he still cheers for Saban's success, just not against LSU. I could see how many former players would feel that way.

The way the poster was able to accurately list that guy's full name is somewhat troubling. Then again, it's a Bama fan...there is always some concern there.

Lot of autographs and fundraising efforts made for Lavergne

I have never heard this....do you have a link? Not doubting you just curious.

I have no problem at all with Saban's former players supporting him and wanting him to do well when he's not playing LSU, but this is really disappointing.

From 2007 before Bama vs. LSU game

quote:

So who will Saban's former players root for Saturday?

The coach who nurtured them as they went through their college years, or the school for which they played.

"I think I'll go with my old coach. I love LSU, but I also love coach Saban," Green said.

"I'm going to pull for both, and whoever wins, it's up in the air. I would love to see coach Saban win, but at the same time I want my team to make it to the national championship."

This has got to be what was referred to, but it isn't exactly like he has no love for LSU.

Like I said I have no problem with Saban's former players at LSU rooting for him at Alabama generally. But damn you can't tell me that if it were Alabama you wouldn't be awfully disappointed.

I wouldn't like Saban if I was an LSU fan. He did revive their program, but he's now the coach of their main in-conference competition.

I really have nothing against Saban. He left us to go to the pros because he finally was able to make that step as a result of his time at LSU.

Knowing how he is, I almost pity the guy for coming back to college football at Alabama because it was going to become such a codependent nightmare for a guy like that. He's got such a low threshold for insane expectations and stupidity you know he half way wants to either kill someone or himself every day.

Not saying that would be any different here, but his situation has changed since he was here. And honestly he's gotten a bit more insane since then.

He had absolutely ZERO chance of succeeding in the NFL because of his personality flaws. I honestly think the the guy has some kind of autism.

He'll die at Alabama and that's probably the best place for him. And the rest of us will have to deal with it till then. But the fact he's even capable of showing some kind of affection for the LSU team that made him... well, that's good. At least he's a functioning human being when need be instead of a walking aneurysm waiting to happen.

He's an interesting guy to say the least.

Yep, most know Saban is doing what Saban does. Coach Football, and in time those wounds might heal enough for the remaining LSU holdouts. Saban loves his players, the process of coaching, and doing all one can do to be successful. If Saban ever loses the players at Bama, he'll blaze.

I get it.

He isn't one of these crazies obsessed with Bama and we aren't their rivals so why would he hate the team Saban is coaching?
