His recruiting outside of Bama wasn't great. It wasn't til his players started getting cars and money that he got top classes. Handing a kid keys to a car and money doesn't require much recruiting.

2000 - #21
2001 - #2
2002 - #21
2003 - #1
2004 - #2

LOL - yea, 3/5 classes being in the Top 2 is pretty underwhelming for sure.

Yet you would give your left nut to have Saban as your HC ........

Nope, Oxford is way too small. Mike Wallace got the 3rd degree for borrowing his brother's car one time and was held out of games by the NCAA while they investigated that. Can you imagine if every player suddenly had a brand new shiny car to drive around in? Saban couldn't "recruit" as well at a smaller school.

Cars and cash started in 2001, then LSU boosters saw a downturn in their businesses so in 2002 the cars and cash stopped. A strong stock market in 2003 put the boosters right back on the recruiting trail.

I can only imagine what these kids are getting in this current economy. If I was them I would want stocks.

I don't know how close Shula really was to landing Tebow. Only Tebow knows, and he seems like a pretty honest person, and it certainly seemed close all the way up until signing day. I think that would've secured a #1 class. All in all though, THANK GOD HE CHOSE FLORIDA

Not a single class at LSU had an average player ranking above even 2008 at Bama. He was even #2 with a player average at 70 and #1 had 98.

Yes, Alabama has way more brand recognition, prestige, and a much bigger trophy room than LSU. Welcome to Earth

Also Saban was an established, very highly regarded, NC winning coach making a huge splash hire from the NFL when he went to Bama. He was just a semi-successful guy from Michigan State when he arrived at LSU

Bama was garbage when he came there. Being good in the past doesn't mean u r just going to jump up to #1 from as bad as they were without something else going on. It was as clear as Ole Miss going from nowhere to top 10.

The football team was garbage. The NAME was still one of the most talked about, well known in all of college football. AND, Bama still had more All American alumni to schmooze, more legendary highlight reels, and more trophies to show off than anyone else around. Sure there have been hard times for a few years, but Bama is still Bama. Be great here and it will mean more than being great anywhere else. Don't you want to make Bama great again?

LOL - yea, he had the #2 ranked class in America with his class having an average recruit rank of low-3 star.

I'll let you double check your work there and see where your errors were.

2002 - #17 in Per Player Stars
2003 - #3 in Per Player Stars
2004 - #3 in Per Player Stars

Brilliant analysis Raburn, per usual

Only because yall were on probation and swapping coaches. Not because yall were great before. That was only Bama fans.

We are talking composite. Not which ever one you think favored your dumb argument. He's not making his living off 3* at Bama.

If the shoe fits. After all, he learned from the best during his DC days under Belichick. The only difference is that Saban is better at not getting caught.
