He took a 3-8 LSU team to 8-5 in his first season here.

He took a 6-5 Toledo team to 9-2 in 1990

An 0-11 MSU to 6 wins in 1995

He was also Bill Bilicheck’s DC.

His record in revenge games is insane, and his record with a week or more to prepaid is insane as well.

I would Say he is criminally underrated X’s and O’s whose because of how good he recruits.

I guess if you coach long enough, people are bound to forget the innovations you bring to the game.

Saban spent a decade or so as a HC struggling to adapt his core defensive ideas, as he tinkered with what would become his signature, the Cover-3 Pattern Matching scheme that has been a staple of championship defense for well over a decade now.

It remains one of the premiere developments in defensive football and adaptive zone defense in the past 20 years.

What do you define as an "X's and O's" coach? I always said Saban was the Vince Lombardi of college football coaches (first at LSU then at Alabama). Was Lombardi an "X's and O's" coach? Like Lombardy, Saban instills a culture of excellence with his teams. They work hard, they are tough, and they execute during games better on average than their opponents. Saban has always been a great DC and his DCs run his scheme (or at least they used to). He is so much more than a great recruiter.

It's just the truth. There's no shame in acknowledging what makes the man a great coach.

It's one of the frustrating thing about arguing with LSU fans that complain about folks "not getting behind Orgeron." I hope Orgeron can win a championship, but it is extremely unlikely. O is liked by his players, he appears to instill loyalty
and recruits well, but the program would tank if it weren't for Aranda. Alleva promised a championship coach and simply promoted O. I don't have to explain what that means to anyone on this board.

That being said, it was very satisfying when LSU defeated Auburn at Auburn with O as HC and with Burrow as our "meh" (their words, not mine) QB. That satisfaction would be increased an order of magnitude if O found a way to beat Bama this year. I'm not holding my breath, but if LSU can just take care of business, even with a loss to Bama, it could still get the 4 seed.

It's why 247 came out and mixed them together to try to get some balance out of it and did the same with older years too. It has nothing to do with when they started

247 was started and is owned by Shannon Terry the same guy who started Rivals. He sold Rivals and made a bundle. After his non-compete ended he formed 247.
Your argument is dumb

The one thing that keeps Alabama above the rest is there dept at defensive positions. There 2nd and 3rd string are better then most teams first string. They rotate in and out all game and make a close first half into a final blowout.

You win with a lot with x/o's you win it all with x/o's and talent. You win it all at multiple multiple times (dynasty) by having schemes, talent and an organizational set up with consistent disciplined vision and purpose. Having that organizational behavior established, to me, is his greatest trait. He really good with schemes. Maybe not as good as Spurrier but an ...8 of 10. On the other fronts easily a 10 of 10

3/4 of LSUs signees are listed as 0-stars if you had the brain to actually take a look.

Do you think LSU finished the 2001 class at #2 with 75% of it's class literally having 0 stars?

Wow, NC State and Arizona State finished that year with 1 commit each. That must be an all time record!

I will say hes good but what made him be looked at as the GOAT is being at Bama. He wasn't never all that special till he come here. I know he won a championship at LSU but that one was taint cause he had to split it with USC. I know I'm gonna get a bunch of red arrows. But anser me this. After seeing what Tua's doing them 1st 4 games of this year. Do you really think Auburn beats us in the Iron Bowl. I say no. We win the Iron Bowl easy. Then we beat Georgia and win the SEC championship before we win the national title for a 15-0 regular season. Then we have 2 in a row 15-0 undefeated national championship teams after the one we get this year. And next years would be 3 in a row.

True, look at some of his losses when he first started at each college BEFORE he got all 5 star players!

As long as people understand that Saban is nothing more than what Bama’s boosters are willing to pay, we’re all good.

The 30 for 30 will be so much fun to watch when Bama goes on 10-15 year probation 2-3 years after he retires.
