Les Miles could've taught him that.
Two things
Saban built the LSU program so that even Miles won a national title.
If Miles was good enough to teach Saban, why was he fired?

Be successful after failing at the highest level... meaning an NFL head coach?
Coach Bryant nearly made the same mistake. When you are an NFL head coach, you don't have the final word. You've got a General Manager AND an owner to have to satisfy. This came from Saban:
“Don’t forget, when I was the coach at the Miami Dolphins, doctors failed Drew Brees on a physical,” Saban said to reporters at a Team Focus fundraiser in Mobile, according to AL.com. “And from that time on, he made about 14 Pro Bowls, won a Super Bowl and passed for, I don’t know how many thousands of yards. So, I guess they make mistakes, too.”
Upper level mgt. wouldn't take a chance on him, and Saban learned the lesson.
Outside of committing a felony, neither Saban nor Bryant has/had to answer to anybody (Pres. incl.).

I don't know that I believe that Saban wanted Brees and the Dolphins simply wouldn't let him sign Brees.
Neither does PFT
Neither does Brees himself:
quote:
Brees had significant interest on the table from the Saints. But he wanted to find out if Saban had the same faith in him that (Sean) Payton and Mickey Loomis had in New Orleans. So Brees picked up the phone and called Saban, who told him the Miami team doctors believed Brees had a 25 percent chance to come back and be the same quarterback, or better, that he'd been before the shoulder surgery.
According to the book, Brees said to Saban: "Coach, I know what your doctors believe about me. My question is, what do you believe?''
Wrote Brees: "Nick Saban paused. That was really all I needed to hear. His pause told me everything. 'Well, Drew,' he said, 'I would still love to have you, but I have to trust what our medical people are saying ...' He went on from there, like he was reading from a script. But I was starting to tune out. By then I had all the information I needed. I had made my decision.''
Brees told Saban thanks, and he'd be going to New Orleans, even though telling Saban that might kill his negotiating position with the Saints.
As Brees told me, "The impression I get from the Dolphins was I should feel lucky they were even looking at me. It just wasn't a welcoming feeling.''

I agree with you, it is kind of dumb for the other poster to say that Saban had to go to Alabama to "learn to win 10 games in back to back seasons" while Les Miles was doing it three seasons in a row with the program Saban built.

Got to remember that Nick and about 20 other teams passed on selecting Aaron Rogers.
Shite happens. I expect those 6 NC rings at Bama lets him off the hook about some bad decisions
Except down at Loseranna State.

No doubt.
No one is perfect.

So because Saban wouldn't throw his superiors under the bus and left it at that, you've drawn your conclusion!
Saban has mentioned on more than one occasion that he didn't enjoy working within the structure of management in professional sports. The fact that he, as Bryant was, is completely responsible for the program shows he learned his lesson well!

Nah he just prefers to throw the medical team under it.

What’s amazing to me is the progression over the yrs. When he first got to Bama, he recruited the best OL, D, and D coordinators but was light on skill positions. Then over the yrs, he added RBs. Then O coordinators and WRs. Sure he recruited Julio, but it’s not until recently that he has been pulling multiple time-flight WRs in one year. Now QBs.
And he managed to make these changes without letting his original target positions (OL in particular) fall off.
It’s amazing. It pisses me off but it’s amazing.

Just the slightest mentioning of Saban brings out the Tigers.

Why not post this from your Alabama account?

College football became offense heavy and he was willing to focus on offense, recruit for it and he's put some top O's on the field even with the constant OC turnover. Personally, I'm happy to see our defense beef up and I can't wait to see them produce this season.

It's interesting that you refuse to place any blame on Saban for missing on Brees

Why would I read anything as to why saban went to the NFL? But you seem triggered when should be ecstatic that he failed in the NFL. bama won on that... even when saban said he wasn't gonna be the bama HC. Smart man with a forked tongue.

First of all, bullshite.
I have plenty of respect for Coach Saban.
Second of all, I didn't bring the topic up, an Alabama poster did.

I mean...Mark Ingram was in his first full recruiting class and Trent Richardson was in his second full recruiting class. We don't win the national championship in 2009 without those two running backs. They made up roughly 90% of our offensive output against Texas in the BCS National Championship Game.
