If you're done paying Bowden, Hall and Dye.

Saban extending at Alabama at 7.2m/year

Saban should be paid $TEXAS monthly.

Pretty good response to all of the above because for all of the talk about football contributing to academics when was the last time tuition wasn't raised?
That has nothing to do with football, and everything to do with federal student loans that are handed out like bank suckers.
The biggest football programs around the country are all at schools with good/great academic programs, no?

You're right - Mack contract runs to 2020, but there is one caveat - his buyout is a measly 2.5 mil. But even that won't be necessary - he will announce resignation within a month and a half.
He'll "resign" and get a $2.5 million retirement "bonus"

Varies I think Stanford and Vanderbilt would be offended if you stated they owed their academic prestige to athletics
I think the amount of money being generated due to tv revenue has changed the attitudes of many in academia but most would argue for more of an emphasis on "student" versus "athlete"

So I guess you guys are done paying Mike Shula, Mike Price, and Mike Dubose?
Yes. Price signed no contract so he didn't get shite. Dubose was owed a couple hundred grand and Shula's buyout was the difference between his annual payout and any other salary. Since he got a good NFL job, the buyout wasn't much, and it was only for 5 years and that's already passed.

Dye still has an office at the athletics complex sooo technically he's still employed

Not to mention the number of coordinators

Ok, well both are private schools, but other than that, good example.

It does more good than harm. A good majority of these kids would probably end up in a destructive situation.
On the flip side, even with the movement away from the student athlete, academics as a whole are improving, especially in the SEC.

Kinda sad, considering he's the only AD caught lying about paying players in the SEC, and his sexist remarks recently. NtY though.

Didn't Tubbs try and distance him from the program? And as soon as he was fire....er...resigned he was brought back?

I guess my thought process is imagine what could be done with 7.2 million per year in Alabama? Hire more teachers, better equip schools, and access to rural health care immediately come to mind. It wouldn't solve the issues completely but would be a good start
Now let's unite and make fun of the Gumps as nature intended

Once again - if paying Saban this much is wasting money, then what in God's name do you call paying Les Miles, Mack Brown, and Will Muschamp what they're making?

I'm actually not sure if Dye still has an office there. I know he did under Chizik but tGusBus may have drove him out. One of my fellow Barners can confirm or dismiss this

The same but it's the world we live in. I say the same about pro athletes you think Drew Bree's deserves a 100 million dollar contract when he can't win a game outside of a domed stadium with electricity issues?
At some point our society decided to place more emphasis on throwing a ball or calling plays from the sideline than on teaching a child to read or rescuing someone from a burning house
