Adding more teams might seem like a slippery slope to 16 but really it's about having all of the power 5 conferences represented. With 4 teams an entire conference is going to get left out every year. 6 would be ideal because it includes the major conferences and an at-large. But that creates bye weeks.

Another option: Creating 4 super conferences and keeping it at 4 playoff teams would eliminate the problem as well.

Personally I'd like to see the committee eliminated and for the conference championships to determine the playoff teams directly. No BS, no politics, no subjectivity.

Win and get in.

It's very obvious that this isn't LSU's mentality.

Thank goodness. There is more to life than winning football games

Is there really some new onslaught of players sitting out this year?

No...just a big exagerration. The only real issue is that they have created way too many bowls and it doesn't mean much now. It used to seem like a reward for the better teams each year. It means a lot to the smaller teams that get invites, but there are a ton of mediocre teams playing and increasingly smaller crowds watching those games. I don't know how a number bowls exist with how few people attend them.

Sounds like Saban is an acolyte of former SEC commish Kramer. While I'm not certain about players skipping bowls (the two high profile ones have had injury riddled seasons), he's spot on about the playoffs taking away from the other bowls. I'd go further and say that the system we have now is perilously close to what Kramer warned us of regarding diminishing the importance of the regular season.

CFB does not need to become college basketball. I can't think of a worse fate than regular season games becoming meaningless while we all wait on the tourney/playoff. That works for round ball but they also play far more games.

I guess the TV revenue. I get the criticisms of having so many bowls. But, I don't think the lower tier bowls really diminish the value of the more prestigious bowls. And they are important to the teams that play in them. The players on the teams that have won them appeared absolutely thrilled. Nobody has to watch them that isn't interested in them.

when an athelete takes a scholarship, doesn't he have an obligation to play unless injured?
