You need to stop. Your head coach is Will Muschamp. Do you actually think Will Muschamp is going to let a player that actually plays and contributes transfer to Bama to play a month from now?
Of course not! I've already said I have no problem with him not being released. I'm simply pointing out that he does not in fact owe Alabama anything. But Alabama is turn also doesn't have to release him.

He wanted to transfer for more playing time, and originally targeted Auburn, which his release allowed him to do. But after being told there were no scholarships available, Jones went back to Miles and asked for permission to speak with Alabama.

What is the SEC rule?
Fifth year seniors transferring do not need to sit out one year.

bullshite. You are painting with a broad brush. There are examples of players transferring in this conference. Most must sit for one year. Most are not fifth year seniors. Fifth year seniors do not need to sit one year, per the NCAA.
This kid is not the starting QB. He is not even the back-up to the QB. He is a role player on the defensive side of the ball. He feels he would get significantly more playing time at UGA. I am sure he has aspirations of playing in the NFL and wants to show his skill level on an every down basis.....or at least have the opportunity to become an every down player.

I don't really have a problem with Saban not wanting him to go to a conference opponent, but Smith and his mom have every right to use what little leverage they have to try to make it happen.
It ain't happening. Mo should know Saban well enough by now, that if anything--this will make Saban more resolute on the matter. Saban has the SEC commish and SEC rules behind him...he has no reason to move, and no amount of bitching will change that.

Then he can transfer to any of the 100+ D1 schools not in the SEC and play in less than a month. You have already been shown an example where Gus did not allow an Auburn player to transfer to another SEC school, but yet continue to bitch about Saban doing it.

Who was not allowed to transfer?

No one remembers the Felon Jones transfer?

Not reading five pages but I'm going to assume this is how the thread is going and will continue to go with neither side changing view:
Bama fans - can't just allow a kid to go wherever he wants. he's been invested in and, like other schools have done, Bama has right to put restrictions on where he goes.
Fans of other schools (particularly rival schools and UGA) - this is further proof Saban only cares about himself. he's a jerk and this is gonna hurt him in recruiting. my team's coach wouldn't do this.

He had that opportunity at Baylor....and then Kirby to UGA happened.

Fifth year seniors transferring within the conference do need to sit out one year, per the SEC, unless the coach allows a waiver.

Based on what, exactly? Where have you read this? I have seen NOTHING that suggests he wants to go to UGA for playing time. Georgia returns their entire starting secondary.

Because saban is not allowing it. Fifth year seniors are exempt from the "must sit for one year when transferring"......unless the school releasing him puts that restriction on the transfer.

Is Smith going to play well if he is with Bama this year? I understand not wanting to let him go to UGA, but he's not going to help the 2016 Crimson Tide much if he doesn't want to be there IMO
He is/was going to be a starter in our 4/5 wide defense.
But with all this crap coming out is he still going to be "motivated". It just seems to be a crappy situation since Saban looks like the bad guy for not wanting him in the SEC and the kid isn't going to be happy there

Apparently this kid doesn't feel the same way or else he would not be wanting out. He has two, TWO, career starts at bama. He is a fifth year senior. Playing on "passing downs" is not significant playing time. That makes him a role player....nothing more, nothing less.
His "feelings" aren't really Saban's problem. The rules are what they are. He committed to Alabama, not Kirby Smart. Do we really want kids following their position coaches every time a coach moves schools? That's a bad precedent.
As far as being a role player...Mo was a virtual starter last year whether he played the first snap of each game or not. Bama is in the nickel package roughly 75% of the time these days...which means Mo for all intents and purposes is a starter. UGA returns it's entire secondary, right? So at best, he would be in a similar position there.

That's my point. Alabama invested in him and got nothing. Tough shite.

Who was not allowed to transfer?
Derrick Moncreif.
Quote from AL.com article:
"The move made some waves nationally as well as Moncrief initially said he was banned from transferring to schools on Auburn's schedule the next two seasons, which an Auburn source confirmed, but later told media outlets, including AL.com, he was blocked from exploring a transfer to Michigan. A source at Auburn told AL.com Moncrief was not banned from transferring to Michigan, which has made inroads at Prattville, including holding a satellite camp on June 5 with Jim Harbaugh and his staff, which Moncrief attended as a visitor."
