Saban knew he couldn't get in trouble buying players with Emmert at the top

Bama refs

Saban somehow learned the proper way to teach holding along the way

LSU made him relevant so he didn't have to start at Bama as a no-name

I think he matured and toned down post Miami

I think it all "clicked" for him right as he stepped over the guy dying on the floor.

More experience and better name recognition. He has more power at bama as well. He went to the NFL and learned what works and what doesnt. He kinda got screwed with injuries and is considered a failure. But its a similar situation to Pete at SC. He failed in the pros but learned alot and applied it to college, that combined with good recruits is why they have been so successful.

I actually thought about that one, but he won a national title in the 3rd year for each program.

I think the better question is why did he perform better at Toledo than at LSU. He won his conference his first year there. Toledo stacked

Because bama is the greatest place ever. Lsu is so behind them even saban lost games. I wonder why lsu fans haven't all killed themselves yet.

Because he's been at Alabama longer.

Coming out of the closet sure helped him a lot.

Nick Saban also left after the 04 season. If he would have stayed for several more years who is to say he couldn't have won more championships at LSU?

Excellent point. Clearly, without a QB in 2004 we were destined for a down year. However, the 2005-2007 teams at LSU were loaded with talent. Who knows what Saban could have done with that? Maybe LSU would have won 3 in 4. Or maybe even 4 in 5.

That call from Obama should be coming any day now.

Saban wasn't motivated to perfect the art of over-signing until he tasted the thrill of cutting players in Miami.

Exactly. And when he left he took many if not all of his assistants. LSU then had to rebuild the coaching staff which probably pushed back some player development.

Of course Saban has been more successful at Alabama. However the timeline no longer matches up.

Because He left LSU before his consistent top 3 recruiting classes hit the field and LSU was in way worse shape than what he took over at BAMA. Had he stayed, LSU would've won 06, 07,11 and maybe another between 07 and 11.

This

quote:

To the OP: Wouldn't seem more likely that Saban's success at Alabama is thanks in large part to the name he made for himself in Baton Rouge? When Saban got to Alabama, kids knew who he was and his track record. Easier to recruit from day one.

And this

quote:

He's a better coach now. Pretty simple. People can learn and get better.

Very simple.

You knew who Nick Saban was before he went to LSU? Don't give me that Michigan state crap. The answer is no.
