I guess Indiana's season is akin to an asteroid hitting the earth

Indiana is going to break Bama. Bama won't be back to the playoffs for a LONG time after this.

I always find this narrative amusing as it is based on a single drive.

To be fair, wasn't it two drives?

Every team needs some luck to win a national championship. Saban and Bama had a lot of luck to get to those games but to their credit they took care of business more often than not when given a chance.

A big part of success is creating your own luck, Hoosier. I know you’re new to this winning thing, but it’s a fact.

Colt came out during the first drive. He only played a few snaps.

Every narrative I've seen implies that because Texas drove a whopping 25 yards before he was hurt, Texas' offense was going to run roughshod over Alabama's defense.

Of course, a few folks do point out that our QB, Greg McElroy, was playing with hurt ribs (but Greg's a man and apparently Colt's a boy, so that's how it goes), which is why we only threw it 12 times to rushing it 51 times.

A healthy McElroy and Alabama probably drops 50 on Texas and no one has to listen to these inane "but if Colt didn't get hurt" theories.

You could just as easily make a post saying Saban was unlucky and find 6 breaks that could have resulted in many more championships.

Since they were a real dynasty in the sense that they were consistently one of the 2 or 3 best teams for 15 years.

Ohio State does of course.

That would've been appropriate. First title contender with fewer than 8 wins since what, the 1890's?

You don't understand the rules. Only Bama is allowed to blame losses on injuries. They can't be beaten otherwise, and no other team ever has injuries.

Imagine this alternate timeline where just one moment changes each season:

2009: Colt McCoy stays in the game and Texas beats Alabama.
2011: Oklahoma State does not lose to Iowa State and reaches the national title game.
2012: Georgia scores a touchdown at the end of the SEC Championship Game.
2015: Alabama fails to recover the onside kick, or Jake Coker misses the long third-down pass to ArDarius Stewart.
2017: Nick Saban stays with Jalen Hurts and never puts Tua Tagovailoa in the game.
2020: COVID never happens.

Change just these six moments over 17 years and the Alabama dynasty is non-existent.

Colt McCoy wasn’t a guaranteed anything. But we can do the same the other way…the Prayer at Jordan Hare doesn’t happen, Bama would have been in the Natty just like The Kick 6 and about 20 other plays in that game to seal it.Bama got hosed several times, that’s a couple that stuck out to me but yeah that “what if” crap can cut both ways homie.

While i agree that Bama has been very fortuitous at times, you could also pick several other crucial moments that'd didn't go Bama's way. So, there's another "alternate reality" in which they have even more titles.

The thing about a so-called alternate reality is that it's not based in actual reality...lol.

2013: AU scores iconic TD by never seen before method on the last play of the game

2014: seldom used 3rd string monster QB at OSU sinks the Tide in semis

2016: Clemson runs historical 100 plays without a penalty scoring on last play of the game with a goalline pick/screen (OPI)

2018: pesky Clemson defense steals
Offensive signals rendering Bama offense very offensive

2019: Tua drops the ball going in for
First and Goal and throws pic right before half time vs National Champions

2021: BY throws pic six as Tide
Goes in to tie and subsequently win in OT. GA gets their first NC since the Rubics cube, Pacman and AIDS originated.

2023: DNK WTH QB was thinking on the last play against UM in the semis.

It’s almost like, “if not for flukes and WTH’s, Bama would have 7 more!”

Certainly “6,7” more.
