The question was straightforward, but Nick Saban needed an extra second to come up with an answer.

What's this particular Alabama team's best quality?

His response was relatively out of character. He led with "the E word."

"To be honest," Saban said, "I think this team has kind of exceeded expectations."

How does a team that won the previous year's national championship, another one two years earlier and entered the season ranked No. 2 in most major polls exceed expectations?

"If you look at all the players that we lost last year, the leadership that we lost, the injuries that we've had, the schedule that we played, the adversity that had to be overcome, the new roles that so many people had on this team, the young players who had opportunities to really kind of show what they could do and how quickly they would mature to be able to do their job in a way that would give us a chance to be successful as a team, I'm really proud of what this team actually was able to accomplish together as a group," Saban said.

"The team chemistry, the positive energy that they had, the responsibility that everyone has kind of taken for their own self-determination and sort of doing their job, and the way this team has worked and worked hard together to try to become a very good football team and to try to improve."

True but so what? They did what was necessary, as has ND. No one else has.

Erroneous. Expectations at Bama under Saban always consist of a national title at season's end.

It is literally impossible for them to excede expectations.

In Jack Nicholas and Tiger Woods heyday they beat people with their B game some tournaments because of intimidation. Could be the reason we beat UGA. UGA didn't think they should win as much as we did so we beat them with our B game.

Considering we lost:

Dont'a Hightower
Mark Barron
Courtney Upshaw
Will Vlachos
Trent Richardson
Darius Hanks
Marquis Maze
Dre Kirkpatrick
DeQuan Menzie
Josh Chapman

Then you throw in the injuries like

Kenny Bell (who may be back)
Jalston Fowler
Dee Hart
DeAndrew White
Chris Black
etc.

Sure, we overachieved.

This puts everything in balance because the 2010 team failed to live up to expectations. They were arguably the most talented team Saban has had at Bama yet found a way to lose 3 games. I don't expect a championship, SEC or BCS, every year nor do I consider a 10-3 record a failure but when you consider the players on that team it seems like they were capable of so much more.

Did you really just say that? You represent the typical bama entitlement attitude!

We played Michigan, LSU, TAMU, UGA & will play ND. Not an easy schedule.

1. Michigan overrated team.
2. LSU has no offense. But in the toughest opponent you faced and one so congrats here.
3. A&M beat y'all.
4. UGA had Richt shite the bed like usual in a big game. This happening should never have been in doubt from the start so it lowers the quality of the win considerably.

Yeah such a tough schedule you've had so far.

Agreed. This was suppose to be somewhat a down year, by that I mean about 10 wins. This was suppose to be LSU's year.
