Arm strength is the only skill that an NFL coach/general manager will think that they can't coach up. He would get drafter first day, but fail as a NFL Qb. Just my opinion.

No way to know. So many QBs that should excel fail so many that should fail excel, then you have the mediocre QBs.

Why did he not go to Arkansas to start with? I don't remember.

Arkansas was not a good situation for him when he was graduating High School. First, the offense was a run-first, pass only in third-and-long offense. Secondly, Mitch Mustain had just signed in the same class, and he had been anointed the next savior of Arkansas football. Just a tough hill to climb.

Once RichRod was named coach at Michigan and Petrino was in place at Arkansas, Mallett was more than eager to come here and play. Win/Win for everyone.

Most importantly, he was never offered a scholarship by Nutt.

Mallett is basically the same guy as Joe Flacco.

Let me get this straight, a guy that completes 57% of his passes, had 4 games under 44%, and only 6 games over 60%, is one of the "most accurate passers you've seen on any level."

Did I read that correctly?

Brady, Brees, Manning. College game, Clausen, Bradford, McCoy.

You're saying Mallet is up there with those guys, right?

Holy moly.

take out Bradford n i agree.

top 2 qb's in my mind are Bradford and Clausen

I'd put Bradford 2nd as well.

But, I may be wrong here, but i'm calling it now, Clausen will be a star in the NFL5 years from now, and I don't think any of the other big name guys from this year will ever be very successful NFL QBs.

I'll bump this in 5 years, right or wrong.

I would take Mallet over Clausen. If Clausen played in the SEC the down south boys would take his arse to the whippin post.

So you think Clausen would complete less than 57% of his passes in the SEC?

Some SEC folks simply hype up the SEC wayyyyy too much.

Clausen had pretty much the best season of any QB last year. To think he'd magically just be terrible in the SEC is just silly.

That's total bull shite. Another internet story started by flute players.
If you ever went to a football camp at a young age, coaches will move you around to see possible potential at other positions.
Nutt never recruited Mallett as a tight end.
Why would Mallett be afraid of Mustain. When MM decommited from Arky,he thought about Notre Dame and Tennessee. Neither gave him the love he desired as Irish had Clausen lined up in the next class, and Uthug had some others they whiffed on. Several schools knew Damien Williams and the system made Mustain seem better ala Evangel and their QBs.

Yes. I am saying that I saw him thread the ball into some extremely tight spaces. I watched every throw he made in a game this year. I can assure you when he is comfortable and doing what he's been taught mechanically, he will put it anywhere it needs to be.

The stats you quote point to the caveat in my assertion - which is 100% true. He doesn't always do the fundamentals correctly. He's only played 15 college games. He still gets rattled and doesn't set in the pocket and practice good mechanics, which leads to errant throws. That was my premise. He needs to take another tour of the SEC and show that he has settled down in the pocket and is making those throws at a significantly higher percentage than he's doing now. Until then, he is not ready for the NFL draft.

Clausen got away with a lot of junk passes that would have been picked for 6 had he not been throwing to Golden Tate, who was being guarded by a d-back from Nevada. Clausen's NFL career will look like Ryan Leaf and Jeff George mated. Only, I doubt Clausen will be as successful as either of them.

I'd bet half my life savings that 6-8 years from now Clausen will EASILY be a better pro than Ryan Mallet.
