Mallett leaves because he knows he's not that good but that he's a "hot name" right now and can go late first round. Take the money and run K-Fed.

Cap won't effect Mallett. 2nd round picks' payscale isn't too outrageous.

It will be at least 2012 before any sort of rookie wage scale is in place in the NFL, according to the ESPN man with a slew of sources. In fact, playing another year for Bobby Petrino could mean as much as $50 million for Mallett, says Chris Mortensen.
At this point, Mortensen believes Mallett might go anywhere from the second round to the second day. Pat White of West Virginia was the first quarterback taken in the second round this year and he signed a four-year contract with Miami worth about $4.5 million, including $2.4 million guaranteed. Mallett could be that man in 2011 when the No. 1 pick will be looking at about $45 million, Mortensen said.
Mort goes on to say there is no way in hell there is a cap anytime soon.....
“Any player or parent who is hearing this from an agent should be very skeptical and I’d say even consider eliminating that agent from the selection process …,” he said. “If an agent is willing to deceive now on this topic, he cannot be a trusted business representative.
In his job, Mortensen has talked Mallett with several NFL personnel people who are proven talent evaluators and he is convinced Mallett “very likely would be disappointed if he decided to come out after this year.”
“He needs more starts,” he said. “He needs to mature, physically and emotionally. There’s no reason to fear a rookie wage scale.”
“I would say it should be an easy decision for Ryan to stay in school,” he said. “If he puts another year behind him in terms of on- and off-field performance, he will be making himself a significant amount of money. And, let’s face it, working another year under Petrino with receivers who are only going to get better, he has a chance to separate himself from every quarterback in this country.”

But I'd say the odds of him doing so are much less than Mallet/McCoy/Bradford/Tebow.
take out Bradford n i agree.
top 2 qb's in my mind are Bradford and Clausen

Arkansas runs a pro-style offense. They don't run the spread.

brady Quinn isn't completely horrible he has good games he's no Jamarcus Russell

ok the spread was a guess my bad thanks for the info
imo if i worked in an NFL front office i would be very very hesitant to draft anyone who didn't run a pro-style offense.

Mallet was horrible against every decent team Arky played. I'd rather have Clausen, whose game is much more polished
His season total passer rating is 154.35, vs the SEC only his passer rating is 133.91
He has 9 interceptions with 31 TDs.
Mallet is a solid QB, he could use another year to develop but he's a 1st day talent.

His size and arm strength alone are enough to tempt someone into drafting him 1st day. But if what Mortensen has said is true and it truly will take 1 or 2 more years until the rookie salary cap is in place, he stands to make a LOT more money by waiting a year.
I also think he could have some sentimental desire to win big at the school he grew up loving. I'm positive that Petrino has big expectations for next season and is telling Ryan what he needs to hear.

Arm strength is the only skill that an NFL coach/general manager will think that they can't coach up. He would get drafter first day, but fail as a NFL Qb. Just my opinion.
