I think he and Clausen could be the top 2 QB's taken next April

if he comes back, Arky can be an SEC title contender.

Why would he go pro when he has yet to finish 1 full college football season?
10 mill signing bonus perhaps

i have no facts to back this up, but Clausen will set some franchise back 4 years, imo..

I'm with you. It's a gut feeling I have that Clausen does not have what it takes to be successful in the NFL.

Jake Locker would have been a top ten pick had he come out this year according to Kiper on Mike and Mike.

Ya'll do remember how those of us touting Locker were dismissed by many of you piccolo players?

Mallett: Large slow inaccurate QB

"Large" is a plus in the NFL.

"Slow" can't be argued. He's a sitting duck in a collapsing pocket.

"Inaccurate" is, well...inaccurate. He can be a very accurate passer. When he's being fundamentally sound with his footwork and mechanics, he is one of the most accurate passers I've ever seen on any level. Saw him hit some windows that were TINY. His problem is not accuracy as much as consistency - which he loses when he gets into the big games. There's no doubt he grips up a bit in the big gmaes. That is the NUMBER ONE reason why he needs to stick around for another year with Garrick McGee and Bobby Petrino. Seeing those defenses again and preparing for and playing in those big games for another year will make a huge difference in his progression. I think he can come back next year, a season when he doesn't have to go to Baton Rouge, Tuskaloosa and Gainesville, and put together a very solid resume.

All he needs is the seasoning and experience in big games to overcome those things that are holding him back right now. No doubt he will do that, and he will be a very good pro.

bunch of haters on here...

Mallett is a top 20 pick based on arm strength alone.

Arm Strength + Ball Skills = $20M

i don't want him to go for selfish reasons, but i can't hate on the guy if he goes.

Well he's playing like a rookie...but he's no Ryan Leaf.

Lets hope he returns to Arkansas for one more year. He needs one more year to polish his skills.

Mallett will get eaten alive in the NFL. If I had to choose a QB next year it would be Sam Bradford.

i see a ton of posts on every board that comments on ryan mallett's need to 'polish'.

where does one get more 'polished'? at school trying to bang chicks from el dorado while going to class and having limits on practice time? or in mini-camps/training camps under the microscope of nfl-grade coaching and unlimited repetition?

Mallett would probably have a higher completion % if he played the schedule Clausen faced.

Charlie Weis is so far up Clausen's rear he can't see straight. He's gonna Bomb big time. Charlie's 2 big bomb gifts to the NFL, Clausen and Brady Quinn.

If I were he, I would definitely toss my hat in the ring - without an agent, and see what happens. A team that could cushion him for live play for a year or two just might take him in the first round. I would but then the next time I go all the way through an NFL draft will be my first.

Strong point. But I counter with this angle...

Option (A): Spend a year with Garrick McGee and Bobby Petrino building an impressive body of work (while working the impressive bodies in the Kappa and Tri-Delt houses), THEN get drafted in the top 3 picks and let the NFL folks pay you $25mil to take those reps in training camp...

OR

Option (B): Come out early, get drafted late in the first round or early second and have the NFL folks pay you $5 or $6 mil to get polished.

I'd go for Option A. Besides, if he stays another year, he's BMOC in Fayetteville and can plow any coed he wants. In Option B, he's just another gangly rookie with a bad haircut who is too tired to chase the honies. He should take advantage of the situation he has right now because it won't last forever.

Of course he would. But, just think if he goes through a second season in the SEC and his numbers improve significantly. That's a very compelling thing for NFL scouts. Shows he's maturing and he's coachable.

I know that. You know that. But people here tend to forget that when they are looking for ways to downplay anything Arkansas related.

I thought there was some kind of a rookie pay cap that goes into effect after this year.

It takes the nfl years to get things right.
