I honestly haven't seen Florida this confident about a coaching hire since they hired Chip Kelly in 2017

So who are the realistic candidates that Florida fans would want, aside from Lane?

Let’s assume yall don’t offer Drinkwitz.

Is Riley a possibility? Who else is being discussed?

Sign the extension...wonder why he has not...hrm..if he is very happy at Ole Miss seems like it would be very easy to do that.

I think he owes it to himself to not rush to sign anything.

More panic slop from the AGB journalist crowd.

Watch them turn on Lane so hard if he takes the Florida job.

Media scum

I think he waits until his kids are graduated before making a move and the move will be either to Alabama if it opens or to the NFL. All this postering is to make sure Ole Miss gives him everything he wants and needs which they will do.

Then why doesn't he just sign a fricking extension and tell people he's staying. I get it that Sexton would like to buy a Condo, in Belize, but, at some point, this shite is going to hurt his team, if he doesn't shut it, the frick, down. Maybe it helps that these guys are all playing for their next contract. It's a lot easier to stay focused when an extra 100k, or more, is on the line...

The distraction being on Lane is better for winning than the distraction being how good Ole Miss is and that they’re going to the playoffs

He addressed the team. All he needed to say was, “we’re winning so everyone wants all of us. I’m working on getting the bag. A bag for me and a bag for players. The noise is good news for all of us.”

You wait to sign a new deal until you get all the donors to fill the coffers. Once they’re filled you still wait and it hurts your rivals and helps you. There’s better reasons to wait until the day after the egg bowl to announce his new deal than there is to doing it now.

I am not sold he is staying, and I do not understand the confidence that Florida has.

I've shared before that I know some people at UF so this is what I've been hearing...

My contacts in the AD at Florida went from "I don't know" to "I'm hearing its Lane" within the past week or so, both from some internal chatter and things agents have been saying off the record.

One of them also knows someone in the AD at Ole Miss and heard something similar.

Obviously if Lane is posturing for a raise and more resources from Ole Miss, or if he were actually leaving, you would hear things like that. So I'm not taking anything concrete from what I've been told. But the vibe has certainly shifted a bit.

I don't think we got the fans choice since Meyer in 2005.

Some people are saying we are not even considering Riley.

FWIW, I think Lane eventually bolts for the NFL, not a college job.

Lord knows NFL head coaches have more free time than college coaches. If you are really focused on family, then that's the route to take.

That is not at all what was said. A question was asked to a mod with caveats if he had to bet on UF or OM for Lane next year right then. He said UF but said it wasn't a done deal. For weeks the mod had answered it is close but OM.

That is what started the shite storm.

The other mod added context that his sources from the UF side AND the OM side said the confidence of UF money people went from "Lane is coming because of the gator Logo and we are a much better job" to "We got him. He is coming to UF"(quiet confidence). That change gave worry to the Ole Miss money people that something had changed. Also the rumblings of specifics of numbers came from the OM side and UF side that aligned.

That is what caused the shite storm. No one said Lane was for sure going to UF outside of the UF money people that the OM beat writers were using as sources.

The guy that made the statement has said from the beginning, "what is true on Monday, may not be true on Tuesday"

He has since posted this

-- A source close to the process told me this morning Kiffin is nowhere close to a decision, adding that the new calendar basically has everyone sailing in uncharted waters. Source said Florida boosters' assertions that a deal to bring Kiffin to Florida is "done," are simply inaccurate.

-- Multiple sources close to the Ole Miss program have told me over the past 24 hours that several football staff people have told Kiffin they have no interest in going to Gainesville and prefer staying at Ole Miss.

It looks like the gators have really blown the wad prematurely on this one!

Bull shite. The number of people that think they have inside sources is laughable.

People that have legit connections, do not burn those connections or brag about them
