Was hoping he would pull through. Prayers to his loved ones.

Really hate to hear this. I was a Bama walk-on during the notorious DuBose years and saw him around a lot and read his articles regularly. Always seemed like a fair, decent man and great sportswriter.
Even though he was relatively young, I don’t think his passing is too shocking to anyone who saw him recently. I saw a video of him on “Hey Coach” or something back around the beginning of the season and I hardly recognized him. He looked terrible.
RIP, Cecil Hurt.

A pastor from Tuscaloosa just did a really moving prayer for Cecil on @finebaum and it was very deeply felt and then Paul cued up the next caller with “next up is Squirrel”

There’s less than a handful of other teams writers I’ve heard of and he was one of them. RIP Mr Hurt.

Damn. Knew he was sick but not that sick. Guy was great at his job and by all accounts a good man.

So heartbroken to hear this. Cecil was one of the best in the business, covering Alabama or otherwise. Prayers for his family and friends.

Sad news. He was one of a few really good sports journalists out there.

This is a huge loss. He was an institution and a great man. Never heard a bad word said about the man. Rip Cecil

Cecil is irreplaceable. In a world full of garbage writing and reporting, he wrote and reported with class, integrity, and wit. He'll be greatly missed.

Someone rolling through an obituary thread and downvoting everyone.
