UF would do everything in their power to block FSU into the SEC

Not sure this is fully true...

Nebraska had tried several times in the past 100 years to join the B1G and they were dumb and happy to pony up the 50 million the B1G asked for to join. I think KU and MU would have joined the B1G but think both balked at the 50 million "entrance tax". KU and MU were smart to wait and not give away 50 million. Missouri had AAU status and big state population going for it over say West Virginia or any of the market overlap teams (Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Florida State). While not the fit many fans wanted it will probably work out in the end.

VA Tech or NC State would've been awesome. They respect football at those programs and would've been an outstanding fit, culturally.

MiZzzou is an embarrassment.

UF wants to be the premier Florida school in the SEC and does not want the competition FSU would bring

The SEC will not expand in a state where they already have a footprint. So anything you see going forward will be NC, VA, OK. If nothing materializes from one of those three states, the the conference will stay at 14 teams.

Anything else in FL, TX, GA are out. No need to expand where you already have a presence.

It is all about TV and media markets. That is the only reason Missouri was added. To get into the KC/STL markets. Nothing more/nothing less. UCF/USF/FSU etc need not apply because they bring nothing new to the table.

No slight on Mizzou but I'd take the Hokies in a heartbeat. I love the Hokies...and I don't even know what a hokie is

Georgia Tech got greedy and left on their own back in the 1960’s. They will never be allowed back in.

Since we're all playing Football King, the ACC will gladly trade NC State for Vandy or Kentucky.

Too late now. Stuck with ag and mizz.

Should have looked for more of a Southern identity and therefore a fit.

But now this may have to be the reality.

Not sure why this thinking persists.

SEC will not raid the ACC as long as ESPN is involved.

Oklahoma got an invite already but did not exercise it and Mizzou took it. Oklahoma makes sense and the B12 was the most damaged conference from this last round of realignment. Question is if the Sooners learned their lesson. B1G keeps whispering in their ear they will get AAU status but they did the opposite with Nebraska after they jumped.

Kansas and Iowa State are both AAU with basketball assets
Oklahoma State is #2 in OK + basketball success but - football - academics

14 has proven unwieldy for all that went there and going to 16 all but assures pods. Also, the more you add, the harder to accrue benefits over the mean (and add $$$$ to the bottom line of the conference as a whole) to make sense.

I would have no problem with GT being in the SEC. We played them quite a bit after they left. That was a great and storied rivalry.

I don't mind Mizzou. I just wish I would get an invitation to go deer hunting up there.

UCF is the team we definitely need to get on the next expansion, IMO. UF won't like it, but oh well.

It's all about money. If you add say a Houston or a UCF.....how many more SECN subscribers do you think we would add? They would also add bowl revenue which everybody in the conf. would share.

NC/NC St./Duke/Va. Tech would be ideal, but they aren't leaving the ACC. FSU already had their shot. Screw them. Bobby wanted to play a basketball schedule in football. Let them rot.

The Georgia Tech Rambling Wreck has left the building. They were part of the SEC until around 1964 because they became greedy and wanted to keep all of the Bowl/TV money and not share it anymore with other members of the conference. Bobby Dodd also had some skirmishes with Bear, Vaught, Neyland etc over scholarship limits as well.
It was a good short term move but it was a terrible and dumb move long term.

That ship has sailed though.

Expansion has nothing to do with how good a school is in sports. It is all about money and market share.

I like Mizzou.

But I wish the SEC would put more of an emphasis on organizing the conference so there are more road-trippable games.

For South Carolina a North Carolina team would have been awesome. A Virginia team is great too.

Love to get Auburn on our schedule. We suck against them, but it would be a great trip (only about 300 miles).

But while I have nothing against A&M, we are just never going to be able to put many fans in their stadium. We could get a bunch to go to Auburn for a big game, but not A&M.

Georgia Tech left in 1963...tried desperately to get back in the SEC in the late 1970's and the SEC flatly told them no.

GT will never ever be welcomed back into the SEC. They can die for all I care. Good riddance to them, too.

Wish we would’ve gotten UNC. Then all we’d needed was VA, OK, and WV to complete the South.
