"Return to murderball" was laughed at quite a bit this year

Alabama got the ball back up 3 with 2+ minutes to play and Georgia had 2 timeouts to use. Alabama ran the ball 4 times for 42 yards and 2 first downs, took 2 victory knees and never gave the ball back.
Murderball is when everybody in the building knows you are gonna run and you successfully do it anyway. Pretty fitting end.

The offense went to sleep in the third quarter but when it had to wake up, it did. It was pretty shocking how much push we were getting against the UGA defensive line.

Yes.. I know this strategy quite well.. in fact, Texas used it against Alabama at BDS before taking a mercy knee.

Which is only a huge deal because we'd fallen off in that area and Georgia is the gold standard. Like Saban told Kirby, y'all imposed your will on us in the 4th in Indy. We had work to do to get back to your levels in the trenches.

You did it with the QB. Little different than what we were sold. QB running gives the O an edge since you have one extra blocker. I was more surprised at how well you ran it in the second quarter, though again some of the pursuit there is halted with a running QB.

I get what you are saying, SoG, but I am not sure what Alabama played this past season would be considered murderball. Maybe the last couple of minutes of our game, but not season long. Your running game, as a whole was pretty ineffective during the season.
That said, once Milroe was convinced to run the ball your offense resembled murderball a bit more, but even then it took awhile to take form.
The big key, will be how it will play in the playoffs and next season. Will Milroe be happy in his new role as mobile QB, or will he revert to his insistence he is a pocket passer? Somebody has gotten in his head and convinced him that he needs to package himself as a pocket passer to catch the eye of the NFL. With next year (likely) being his last year he might be more insistent on staying in the pocket. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
(This was in no way meant to be critical of Alabama or Milroe...just an observation)

Credit Georgia in the third, but in part Alabama was intentionally saving some of those plays until they were needed.
In the post-game comments, Saban was asked why they ran some things late that hadn't been seen on film (including a designed Milroe run out of a certain set), and he stated that it was part of the ball-control endgame because they had noticed Georgia Tech had a good bit of success running something similar.

Like the rest of the OL it was pretty damn good the last 1/3 of the season once they got settled and Roberts entered the lineup. It certain took a while to materialize, but we pushed the LOS from about the 2nd half of the Tennessee game forward.

George is a good poster and knows this.
Bama thought they had an o-line that could move anyone and one of these QBs would be able to make an offense pay if they put too many in the box to stop it.
That's not what we saw throughout the year. Milroe was needed precisely because they couldn't run the ball in a conventional fashion and the game manager QBs weren't scaring anyone to make the D back off a bit. I'm not sure why Georgia couldn't handle them for most of the first half. Odd seeing them stop them cold for the third quarter well into the fourth after getting pushed around like they did.
The obvious plan for Milroe was to force him to do what he doesn't do well. Two spies kept him from breaking long runs and the coverage kept him from getting long TD throws. We got burnt with the wheel route....again. He made some playground type plays a few times. I tip my hat to Bama for getting what they could out of him. But if anyone in this field is actually anywhere near an elite team, Bama probably won't win it all. At some point, having quarter and a half a game where the offense disappears will bite you. It has happened in almost every game except LSU (we know why there) and UK (who has had secondary problems all year long).
I do think their Oline has improved, but I watched murderball up close and personal in the SECCG in 2012. This ain't it.
