Hope you guys get him. He is not on our radar.

I think it would be a fail hire again though.

As far as recruiting...His name wont recruit. 18 year olds today were to young to remember 08. They were 9 years old.

If UT is going to be willing to pay Gruden money they will pay up to get coordinators, and the rest coaching staff that will help. Also, i'm sure they'll have a team of "consultants" like bama has.

As I said in another thread..The Steele-Cooter Coordinator Show...would make me happy.

I wonder what the other 2 college gigs he would take...

Did any of those Johnny Majors hiring decisions have an 8 year gap in their resume as a coach before you hired them?

Damn, haven't considered this one. 8 years is a long time.

I'm one of Grudens biggest fans. I loved that Raider team he built while he was there. I'd be very concerned about hiring him now though, he's been out of coaching for 10 years.

Hell, has he even been keeping up with the game the last 8 years?

Good point. I hear he has been living in the mountains of Tora Bora since his firing from Tampa Bay.

So his last college experience is the tight ends coach at Pacific in 1989. He has little college football experience. Hasn't shown he can recruit. Tennessee wants him because he was a graduate assistant there for one year in 1986. He was fired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - of all teams - and yet this is the guy Tennessee hangs their hat on to take them to the promised land?

He hasn't coached any college since the 1980's and was just a positional coach at most then. No one has a clue if he can be an effective head coach at the college level. If he gets the job, it will be the first head coaching job he has held in a decade.

What gives Tennessee? What about Gruden excites you? Is it the fact he will scowl and look serious at critical times? Hell, Butch Jones can do that for you. Get serious already and go hire a coach with a track record of success at the CFB level and stop thinking you are going to be magically transformed into a Super Bowl team by a washed up old NFL coach.

Lol he wouldn't even come close, been out of coaching too long. Plus, it is hard to recruit at UT, what with the state not producing much talent.

Guys, just admit this is a pure publicity hire. Guy doesn't even know what official visits are probably. Can he even pass the recruiting test? High school coaches won't want anything to do with him. Football guys think he's a loser.

Face it, it's a worthless hire.

LITERALLY the stupidest argument against Gruden there is, yet you dumb fricks repeat it, over and over and over and over and over.

This. IMO, Gruden would kill it at Tennessee. He still has tons of juice with the young players. They all know exactly who he is. I think Gruden and his staff would wreck it on the recruiting trail.

VERY true. Most inner city kids don't want to live in East TN.

Another concern with Gruden is that his offense would be too difficult for college kids.
