He isn't the backup QB. He is the backup of the backup. Garoppolo dresses as the 2nd. I don't know what your standard is but I think if a 4th rounder has not had a regular season snap halfway through his 3rd season, it is probably a wasted pick.
Only 4 4th rounders (out of 145) from 2021-2024 have never played a snap (an one of them died before being able to play). Seems like a pretty objective line. And you would think another QB needy team would have come asking this past offseason about him to fill in as their actual gameday backup but they didn't.

We were told while he was in college he'd be mowing lawns for a living after he left UGA.
Meanwhile... in addition to the two million dollars he made in NIL at UGA, he's made 3 million in the NFL so far as a backup QB. Only 700K of that was guaranteed when he signed his rookie contract.
And he's barely gotten hit. Guys still living the life.

Yup. Even after the first natty when he announced he was coming back. Everyone I know were like ‘uh, nah, we’re good.’
