Origin Of 15 Yard Unsportsmanlike Conduct Penalty For Running In Tunnel
Rules were updated after this incident and refs should have called a 15 yard Unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on each of the four USCe players that ran into the tunnel. But when your coach showboats it's hard to expect otherwise from his players.
I guess it is asking a bit much of the refs to know all the rules but this was put in to control the showboating.

Boy, I was on an SEC sideline decades before you were even shitting diapers.
Yes, when I saw the USCe players run into the opponents tunnel I knew that was an unsportsmanlike penalty that should have been called and yes I was very pissed that the refs didn't know the rules well enough to throw the flag.
I was involved with football when running into an opponents tunnel became a penalty and the reason is that it is a form of taunting. The rule was put in place as part of a large effort to cut down on the number of serious brawls which happened back in the day.
I have forgotten more about football rules than you will ever know. From your comments toward somebody pointing out missed calls you appear to have a problem with authority.
That is the fault of your parent's because there evidently wasn't enough BTA when you were a kid.

When you mention a player showboating in the tunnel I instantly think of the Miami vs Texas Cotton Bowl I think it was in the 80’s. I was watching that game and can remember the Miami player running up in the tunnel and standing there playing acting like he was shooting his pistols lol. That whole game was nothing but showboating. Miami got flagged all day for unsportsmanlike and other penalties and still destroyed Texas that day.

It's a valid point. It doesn't excuse the DPS officer acting a fool, but it was odd to see several SCar players run into a random tunnel right after a touchdown.
Who knows what the whole story is but I saw #8 go into a slight limp after scoring the touchdown. His momentum seemed to carry him towards the tunnel and then he just kept going. Arguably you could say the other players followed him in to check on him but also to celebrate which is the intent of the penalty you mentioned.

We got some favorable calls Saturday. Howell hit Sellers (hard!) out of bounds on a critical 3rd down in 2nd half- no call.
We also had a first down marked when we were probably a yard short.
But yes, they should have been flagged-and it was MORE than 3 that ran up the tunnel.
Failure all around.

So kids being excited, & over celebrating a TD vs the best team they will play all year, may in fact , merit a penalty..that wasn't enforced. Either by choice, or ignorance from the refs?
Seems like you are covering the behavior, yet again, of a law enforcement officer who was completely out of line for the situation at hand. A damn near sickening look, and total embarrassment, on an otherwise amazing day for A&M.
Admit it, you cheered for Sheriff Burford T. Justice in Smokey & da Bandit..didn't you?

bullshite. You pull a hamstring so you run another 30 yards past the goal line to, what, fix it? No one is so fast that it takes them 30 yards to slow down.
The cop is a douche and has no business being in public with a badge and a gun, but acting like Harbor was an innocent victim is pretty bad.
