The whole Malzahn situation and those kids he brought with him was the beginning of the end. And like someone else mentioned, there was some fatigue comparable to Les Miles. He felt he was untouchable and he got pretty lazy.

Once in a lifetime homegrown players like Matt Jones and McFadden kept him going.

He split the fanbase and that was pretty much the last straw. No, it wasn't mutual. Nutt wanted to stay.

I thought Nutt was a nice guy but I couldn't deal with watching his brand of ball not counting wildcat McFadden.

He was a used car salesman that talked out of his arse to try and make people believe he was a competent coach and not a fraud. Oh he could get the players up for a big game - but then he'd go and lose to a shite team the next week.

He did ruin what could have been a great relationship with Gus as our OC and those Springdale kids but his stupid arse couldn't see past his ego and it cost him his "dream job". We likely would have been stuck with Nuttless if Ole Miss hadn't come along and "stole" him from us. It was a blessing. I never root against Ole Miss (except when we play them) just because they freed us from that idiot. How the hell do you not win a Championship with McFadden, Jones, and Hillis in the backfield when allegedly you are a run first coach? F'ing fraud.

And yes, Bert is fat.

I was watching Last Chance U on Netflix and the coach of Independence CC reminded me a lot of Nutt.

Theresa Pruitt- Emailed Mitch Mustain, tore down players, tore down Gus, all at the bequest of HDN.
Donna Bragg- Supposed affair with her, even texting her during games...
Gus Malzahn- Used several players and them signing with Arkansas to get his beloved OC position. When he was demoted, or was going to be... he threw a hissy fit, got the Armani Ronnie crowd to boycott HDN, etc.
HDN- Backchanneled so many people, back stabbed, and finally he got what he dished out.
Frank Broyles- Treated Nutt like a long lost son, gave him much more room and grace than he had others in the past. Frank pulled the strings in the program.
Jim Lindsey- Held on to nutt way too long for the BOT, as did a few others.

Flying banners during games, black shirts during games, a fanbase torn and the golden handcuffs. Mustain was treated like crap first by Nutt, then his cronies, then used by Gus.. Kid was a headcase by the end.

This is a very abbreviated synopsis, look up the names, see the innuendo and make your own decision.

Now it is Chad's time to shine.. I hope!

His ego got the best of him. Couldn't handle anyone else in the program getting any credit. It had to be all about him.

I remember this about him but I also remember it becoming a circus show like the above poster mentioned. Split fan base, Springdale situation, I think it was worse than Les Miles deal.

Most of the media thought it was a home run hire.

What media? The Arkansas media? Everyone in Texas was making fun of that hire from day one and all of the reasons we thought it was dumb turned out to be exactly right.

We got an "A" grade from nearly everyone for it. Funny looking back at the comments though lol

He could not recruit and develop a QB to save his life. That was his problem at both Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Clint Stoerner and Jevan Snead were both inherited. The closest he came to recruiting and developing a QB was Matt Jones, who was just an incredible athlete winging it most of the time.

Despite that, he did not hire an OC for the first 8 years of his 10 year tenure. Think about that!! Who doesn't have an OC?

And, unfortunately, when he did finally hire an OC, it became a disaster. And while much of it was his fault, there was plenty of blame to go around. From Broyles to Malzahn to the kids and their parents.

By the end it was impossible to mend a broken fanbase.
