It's true. Sumlin passed on him for Kyler in HS & Kellen Mond (plus maybe 2 other IMG recruits) as a transfer.

Whoa whoa whoa.

We can't give him shite for taking Kyler and you know exactly why. It was straight up impossible for him to not take that shite head. It was a non starter for him to pass.

When it comes to Mond? Sure. But to me that says he thought he could win with Starkel and develop Mond for later. Odds are if Starkel hadn't gotten hurt he would have been right so it's hard to get mad that he took the long term approach on that one.

True. It was probably a 90-10 split Murray-Stidham from the fans. But a big time HC has to see through that bluster and make the evaluation.

Also, this is a joke of a statement. There was NO WAY IN HELL he would have survived had he not landed the son of the former GOAT Aggie QB who had just gone undefeated for two years running at Allen. ZERO. Then with Kyler threatening to go to Texas at the last moment? The BMAs would have shite canned him right then and there had he gone to Austin.

Wasn't the rumor going around that he told Mond he wouldn't recruit any other QB if he would go ahead and commit. Seems like I remember Mond signing and Auburn started making a ton of headway with Stidham after that.

ETA: I'm talking after he left Baylor. Don't know much about his recruitment out of HS

Mostly true, but ultimately people care most about winning. Stidham would have won a lot more games than Kyler ever did. Kyler would have road the 6 win train at tu. I'm not saying I saw it at the time. I wanted Kyler too. But we shouldn't have been blind to a decision that should have been at least 50-50 and not a slam dunk like we all thought/acted like.

Anyone could have made headway because A&M didn't recruit him. He didn't have the option to go here.

It doesn't matter what we know after the fact. Nobody really knew Stidham would be as good as he is. That's why he originally ended up at Baylor instead of somewhere like OU or Texas. Also, it cannot be emphasized enough that there was no way Sumlin was going to be allowed to pass on Murray. Zero. None. He was too highly rated, he was the son of the one time GOAT Aggie QB, and he kinda sorta played like Johnny 2.0 at Allen. As much as I wish Sumlin would have cut bait the moment that little shite started entertaining flipping to Texas you and I both know it would have been impossible for Sumlin to allow that to happen. Remember, that was Charlie Strong's first year at Texas. It would have been a massive PR disaster that would have pretty much ended his time at A&M for Sumlin to allow Kyler to flip to them.

Sounds like you are trying to counter you Jimbo buyer's remorse. He's gone. No one blames A&M for getting rid of Sumlin. I knew it was a mistake from his Houston days. He was all about Sumlin - always!

No Aggie is anything but excited about Jimbo.

But Sumlin had our best year since the 1950s so we have to justify firing him.

It is well known Stidham never wanted to leave for Aubarn but unfortunately Sumlin left him no choice

One of whom has already left the team and transferred to Arizona.
