We either want Malzahn or this guy.

Hard to believe the barn complex went all in on his current contract after beating Bama in 2017.
The problem is most teams (due to very wishful thinking) believe the minute Alabama loses a game (or in the case of UGA, keeps it close), they must be the heir apparent and that Alabama is finished. They have made that mistake time and again. Bama is one of the few blue bloods who remain relevant in most eras of the game and will likely do so with the coaches who come after Saban.

Head coach? frick no.
Head concierge? Absolutely. Butch will no longer be on the Tennessee payroll in a couple of months and Saban's dinner reservations aren't going to make themselves.

As a first choice, probably not. But I'm sure there is a program out there that he would be an upgrade for.

Gus has Auburn by the short hairs with that contract. He won't negotiate down in compensation, and why should he? Auburn's going to pay him through the expiration or pay him to leave either way Gus gets paid.
Our best case now is that Gustav has one of his 'great' seasons in 2021, then Sexton manages to persuade another school to offer him a ridiculous deal and our PTB have the balls (and good sense) to tell them "Fine, good luck in your future endeavors." Of course all three of those contingencies have infinitesimally small probabilities.
This is the unhappy fate of the AU fanbase these days.

I think he would maybe do well at Vandy

Does Allen Greene have the backbone to press Gus and actually make him miserable though?
He laid the groundwork a couple of years ago when they put some restrictions on hiring an OC (and we ended up with Dillingham.)
But I meant more Auburn in general. I know it's a lot of $, but how long would you want to stay working at a job where 80% of the people can't stand you and turn up the heat every time you lose another game on the road vs. your rivals? At some point you'd think he'd have enough and negotiate down that buyout and go somewhere he'd be appreciated for winning 7-8 games and not have to worry about playing Alabama, UGA & LSU every year. I don't think Sexton would let him.

Nah. He's have to play UGA, USC, UF every year, all of which he's lost recently to. Then throw Tennessee into the mix, even though he actually won that one this year.

There are a few high schools in Georgia who would love to have him help return them to glory.

I suppose millions a year can make things feel rosy, but at the point where a person is mega rich already I'd be damned if I'd want to hang around a place where no one wants me.

Gus when he comes into work every morning

South Carolina would hire him tomorrow

I’m in a giving mood considering the holidays! Perhaps we could be persuaded to let him go to UT if they simply pick up the note, no buy out required!

I’m sure Arkansas State would love to have him back.

Honestly...he is getting paid $7 million a year. That is what you call F@#$ you money. You think he really cares what people think of him? If I was getting paid 7 mil a year, I could careless what anybody outside my friends and family thought of me. If he feels like he is giving his all and doing the best he can, that is probably all that matters to him.

He would be an upgrade at any of these schools:
South Carolina
Vandy
Mizzou
Arky
UK I think it may be a stalemate.
UT
MSST

Gus is a good coach...not a great one. He might have more success due to better recruiting if he didn't have this behemoth and the GOAT on the other side of the state.
