Coach O is an LSU man. He is a lifer. He will restore LSU to the LSU we all remember from the 1990s.

You may have to arm-wrestle Nebraska fans for him.

He’s not going back to Nebraska. I’m certain of that.

4) Orgeron fired Jan 1, 2019
how can you wait until January 1st to fire him? Wouldn't all the best options be gone at that point?

They are a top 5 job in the country, coaches will be waiting and lined up a chance of taking over LSU.

I mean I saw this coming a mile away and even I didn't think we'd be this bad this fast

I can't say the same, although I knew he was pretty bad. I just didn't think that coaching with THAT much talent would take under a year to devolve into this. I figured LSU would still be decent this season and take a slow decline to what we're seeing now as O's tenure wore on.

I mean, what can a coach do differently in less than a year that causes that much of a decline??! Especially considering the coach was on the previous staff and most of it was retained as well. I think it goes to show how much momentum, environment, confidence, and emotion play into any given team's ability and success, because the mental side is all that could be affected so quickly.

To answer the OP, it would take the AD and several other VIPs admitting they made a huge mistake, eating crow, and ponying up millions of dollars to let him go any time soon. They should just write it off as a loss and rip the bandaid off now and it would actually make the fans have slightly more faith in the AD, but their egos aren't allowing them to see it that way. In their minds the longer they go without admitting their mistake the longer the fans are strung along and don't start calling for their heads.

Theyll give him until AT LEAST mid-season 2018 before setting the firing preparations in motion, assuming the results stay the same. Fan support by that time will be bad enough that it can't and won't be ignored.

Three years and then clean the entire house and start over. There has to be another up and coming Saban type out there somewhere.

There is risk there as well.

For every Saban there are 100 Dooleys.

Better question is how far does this set LSUs program back?

Ole Miss recovered decently in 2008.

I can't imagine they can fire him before 2018. Even if they could afford it, the optics are terrible and would run a lot of candidates off.

After showing they are willing to fire the second winningest coach in America, they can't afford more bad coaching hire PR.
