Don't let Vandy's relative success the past 15 or so years cause you to forget how bad they have been since Dan McGugin retired in 1934. They're 342-559-24 since that time. That's right, they've lost more than 200 games than they've won.
So to answer your question: nothing. They're a founding member of the conference.

Division 2
Bottom 6 Teams same time period
Division 1 plays 9 game SEC schedule each year. Bottom 2 teams play a rematch in the SEC Relegation Game. Loser moves down..
Division 2 plays Home and Home 10 Game SEC schedule. Top 2 teams play in the SEC Promotion Game each year. Winner moves up..
And yes, Texas should permanently be a member of Division 2 with no chance of promotion for suggesting such nonsense..

It's not the GPA, it's the FOIA protection.
SEC records can't be FOIA'd because they contain private school information.
We'd have to bring in Duke or Baylor or etc if we ditched Vandy

They’re a waste of time to play them. Beating them 62-0 means nothing to me. They might as well have been the local private highschool team. Might’ve given us a better game honestly.

Culture problem. Or they probably don't see it as a problem since the point of a school is supposed to be... school.
This year we had a good player transfer from their basketball team come here and say he liked being here more cause the students at Vandy just straight up don't care about the basketball team.

Also, they used to care about basketball which made up for their football woes. Now, they suck in that sport as well.
They bring up the GPA of the league, but damn...they're painful to watch.

This is what I've heard before but I'm not sure it's absolutely necessary. When the SWC was folding into the Big 12 we were trying to get rid of all the private schools so I'm guessing they had a different mechanism to avoid the FOIAs.

Not a Go**amn thing.
You're going to go to Nashville, compliment the hot chicken, enjoy the easy conference win before you take on Bama and UGA, thank them for creating the conference and leading it for a generation until it became nationally relevant, thank them for Roy Kramer so you and others can benefit, and then encourage them to heal sick people and train teachers. That's what 'to do with' Vandy.
But if you want to sack that whistler dude, I understand...

Their status as a private school means SEC meetings and financials cannot be subjected to a FOIA request. They aren't going anywhere.

If they lose next week , then it’s ,for sure ,the worst vandy team in my lifetime and the worst I’ve heard of . I’m 35 and started watching in 2001 heavily.
In the past I always knew of one decent player they’ve had, but this is as bad a team as I’ve seen in the sec since 2001
Remember in 2019 they had that tight end and running back that were nfl talents. I don’t remember the third guy but they had 3 good players that were close to as good as Jordan Mathews and jay cutler
Those are the only 5 players I know of that were really good since I started following the conference.
Now I can’t name but one player , the qb named ken seals , but he got hurt or benched Saturday

Female woke athletic director hasn't helped.
I have family friends whose daughter is a female athlete at Vanderbilt. In her sport, they are dead last in the SEC and are not even close to making a move. Its a joke. But she's getting a world class education, so the team just puts up with it. They want to be better but the athletic department doesn't give two shits about anything but teaching them about diversity and inclusion. Their sport does not even have a dedicated facility.
She has told her parents that these seminars are mandatory but practice isn't.

So after reading this thread; then can we all agree that James Franklin should really be considered as one of the best HC’s out there that really isn’t getting the real recognition and credit he deserves? I mean he is doing a decent job at penn st as well. Imagine if he ever had the talent, facilities, support, fan interest, etc of a big blue blood school, imagine how well he’d do. I would hate to see USC steal him or anybody from the SEC. If he can take SEC Vandy that was 2-10 in 2009 and ‘10 and bring them to a 7 win team his first year then follow up that year with consecutive 9 win seasons, at VANDY… whew I’d hate to see what he could do at a relevant/known program… take away the covid 2020 season and he only has 3 seasons, in his entire HC career, with less than 9 wins; 2 of those seasons were his first years at a new school
