Is this why they are so far behind, they are just meeting the new coach?

lol, just mad that I had to live through watching a D Line coach try to be a HC for the first time, but happy that Arky will now have to live through that misery .

To anyone who thinks Pittman is the next Ed O, for a little perspective, his first HC job was 15 years ago and Pittman’s is this year. Maybe in 15 years this will pay off for ya

Ed o is overrated and has been lucky to get the positions he's been in.

So if Ed O is overrated, you think Pittman will be better?

You couldn't beat an Ole Miss team coached by Matt Luke last year, but you think you're going to beat a more experienced Ole Miss team this year with a better head coach while you have a FIRST TIME EVER HC on your sideline?

Got it

Judging Sam by the past failures of other coaches is kind of stupid.

This will be a different team,I hope it's for the better.

At least we got rid of the high school crap.

I could actually see him carving out a decent little niche for himself bc of this.

Kirk Ferentz came to Iowa as a first time HC who had been considered the top OL coach in the NFL before that. Now he's far and away the longest tenured HC in P5 (FBS too I think). Of course there's probably a little more homegrown OL talent in the corn fields of Iowa, and Ferentz and his staff have also been excellent at scouting and development at every position, not just OL

To be fair, Ole Miss does suck.

They only had two head coaches since 1978. They had 17 consecutive losing seasons but future HOF coach Hayden Fry was impressed by the fan support that he decided to stay. He won the very first Big 10 title in school history. Iowa was a contender in the Big 10 which it never was.

Consistency is what helped Iowa from falling into the abyss like Arkansas. The fans were and are patient now and will keep schools from making dumb mistakes.

Meanwhile Arkansas has an impressive list of hall of shame coaches since 1978.

Lou Holtz fired.

Ken Hatfield resigned.

Jack Crowe fired after his first game in his third season.

Joe Kines interim.

Danny Ford fired.

Houston Nutt fired.

Bobby Petrino fired.

John L. Smith interim

Bert fired.

Chad Morris fired.

What that mean? Your team barely beat Ole Miss last year. It is not a good look for your team this year against Ole Miss! I am thinking a loss to Ole Miss this year.

Reason he is there a long time because he is at Iowa and not at OSU where the HC at OSU must win the B10 championship and get into college playoff from time to time. At Iowa the HC isn't in need to do anything big!

I am trying to understand what did Gus see in Chad Morris! Maybe he will be a hit? I do not know. It is going to be fun to watch College football again and see how the new HCs and coordinators do this year.

At Ole Miss yes. But at LSU is a different school and much better and easier to recruit from the State of Louisiana. Also he has been learning as he been at different schools and been HC at USC. At LSU he was the OL coach and then promoted from within. Made things easier and it works out great for LSU. Will Pittman be successful HC at Arkansas? No one really knows.

He has averaged 8-9 wins a year at Iowa.

Of course Ohio State is going to have higher expectations because they are a storied program. Iowa was a bottom feeder before Hayden Fry came and changed the culture.

Kinda my point, he's lucked out. He may have picked things up, but been extremely lucky finding landings. LSU will always be a top program, ive always said they were a sleeping Giant. They don't have their OC and DC as well as Heisman QB. We will see what the future brings.
