Bama and Auburn will be tough sells for AAU membership because that is all about research and the vast majority of the high end research going on in this state is done at UAB. Moving the medical school to Birmingham helped the overall prestige of the medical school tremendously but also really hurt UA in terms of research funding.

Alabama and AAU in the same sentence

UGA may be a little bit better school overall right now. But to say significantly better is just stupid.

Boys and Girls, your education is what you, personally, make of it. Once you hit year 3 in your career, where you went to school is totally and completely irrelevant.
I have a degree from LSU and have worked with Ivy league, MIT, Rice, Vandy, Stanford, Texas, etc, etc, graduates and have done just fine.
The only thing that we discuss when I attend meetings is how our respective schools are doing in football and basketball. No one cares about how their school is ranked in geophysics or biochemistry.

Which is why we have these rankings.
Agreed. My point was that for the most part the quality of education, depending on program, is pretty similar.

You are probably right. Why are LSU fans getting so pissy about these rankings though? Like it would matter that my degree came from Alabama and yours from LSU if we were competing for the same job? The only school that matters and sticks out on a resume is Vandy.
This.

I wonder how many people bragging/complaining in this thread didn't even attend the school they are defending.
I have been a fan of Duke since I was 7, so eat shite, bottom feeders!!

Is it that time in the off season when we start discussing academics?

A&M and Florida both carry some weight, IMO.
I don't know about Florida, or even some diplomas at A&M, but my petroleum engineering degree carries some weight globally. And usually we are ranked number 1 in the country for undergrad, even though they don't rank is every year. I never received a graduate or doctorate from A&M, and I'm sure just based purely on endowment we are ranked highly because of all the research, but education wise who knows. I know that 4 of the world's 5 largest oil companies are in Houston, and I know that Texas A&M has a strong, if not the strongest presence in each of those companies.

4. Georgia
Interesting, although tbh, I haven't followed A&M's academics that closely. I knew UF and UGA have always been pretty good academically.

It's cool that they have them here.. but Auburn has really been hammered from Academia problems in the last 10 years.. I almost feel like they should at least be below Mizzou.
What the frick are you talking about? You post this shite and don't even bother explaining. If you are talking about administrative issues in 2003 involving Bobby Lowder then by all means explain because those had absolutely nothing to do with academics.

I disagree. A degree from either of those schools does not open any special doors except for in Texas and Florida.
I can assure you that my petroleum engineering degree from A&M has opened doors for me globally. Are there dumb Aggies that were classmates of mine that couldn't cut it amongst your average Bama grad? Sure, there might have been a few, but it was a rigorous program that has opened a lot of doors for a lot of us. But you might not believe that, it is no big deal. It definitely hasn't opened doors for me in Malibu Beach, the Florida Keys, or the Swiss Alps, but I can promise you it isn't limited to the Lone Star State.

Fwiw auburn and UGA admission standards are almost the same, Auburn has gotten much harder to get into lately
Everyone I know who goes to Auburn were people who couldn't get in to UGA and had parents who could afford it.

Bragging about your undergrad is like arguing over who is least mentally handicapped anyway...

So you are trying to say UGA's incoming class is well above Auburn's as far as academic achievements?
