I have never once capitalized kansas. Was taught it’s improper to do so as a kid and continue to do so as a professional.

It’s a unique hatred. I’d help my jayhawk neighbor if he was in distress, but I delight in his defeats more than my own victories and he feels the same. It’s a beautiful thing.

You've got it backwards...

South Carolina can thank Kansas and Missouri.

The Bushwhackers and Jayhawkers had been going at it for over five years before South Carolina got started.

Only one of these is rooted in literal war.

For the states themselves? Sure.

What about the schools themselves?

Has your rivalry ever been put on hold for a number of years because armed students had to barricade themselves in because armed cadets from the other school were about to attack over a chicken drawing?

Have live animals ever been thrown out of an airplane or dropped dead on its way to an half time show prank?

Were your teams involved in the most memorable CFB brawl since the turn of the century?

Honestly, kinda seen the same during the time I've spent in Mississippi. Most State fans I've met are alum. Cowbells, do you see that, too, or am I underestimating the sidewalk contingent?

State has some sidewalk fans. I'd think there are more State sidewalk fans than Ole Miss, but most fans of both have some sort of connection to the school they root for be it an alum themselves, a child that is an alum/student, cousin who went there, etc. By far in eastern Mississippi the largest contingent of sidewalk fans are the stupid, redneck Mississippians who root for Alabama. If you think regular Alabama fans are obnoxious wait until you meet one of these gems.

The one where people literally died wins the top spot.

Those were just border skirmishes. SC started full on open warfare with the federal government....

From just the teams listed, all of the other states have pro teams that pull away from the college rivalries with the exception of one South Carolina.

That's why SC vs Clempson garners the most hate between fan bases.

UGA has a lot of rivalries. They're all different and so the order of them changes depending on what you're ranking them on.

UGA's most competitive rivalry historically is Auburn.
The rivalry game that sucks most to lose is GT.
The rivalry game that feels best to win is UF.

I imagine any ranking would be different depending on what factor you count most for the OP list.

Georgia /Georgia Tech is #1 by a longshot

KY / Louisville - Experienced this one, its intense.

Florida / Florida State (both probably #2 to Miami)

Kansas / Mizu - Only one based on an actual war. Also only one that BOTH team historically suck balls.

USCe / Clemson - folks are just too nice in South Carolina to really have a rivalry.
