Now the complete confidence that some UGA fans in Newman to maintain UGA as a national contender is unfounded, though.

I’m confident the defense will maintain UGA as a contender.

Only an auburn fan would discount the importance of an accurate arm...after their qb missed an easy 4th down pass that may have helped beat uga.

Yeah I don’t think Kelly was what people thought. He was basically a care taker between Watson and Lawrence. Kelly was fine in that he didn’t have to win the game but don’t get cost us the game. One of those type QB. Which sometimes is fine if you have enough to go around you.

I do think this kid good really add a new threat and open the offense up for you if they put in some more design runs and read option. He’s a good athlete

ETA: I do like Kelly and have known him since he was a freshman in high school so please don’t think I’m slamming him as a kid

Gators said that after 2017 and after 2018, but have been wrong. I suppose it’s always been possible, just not probable. For your sake, don’t bet your mortgage.
You're painting with a pretty broad brush there

Losing Fromm and your entire OL plus your OL coach is pretty different than the changes you've undergone the past few seasons. It's okay to have one rebuilding year

Last year the refrain was about losing both coordinators and all the receivers. That did have an impact, but not as much as many hoped in the W/L column. The defense in particular actually played better.

Despite the losses, UGA is still very talented on the OL and has decent experience, especially if Cleveland comes back as is currently expected. Hill, Cleveland, Salyer, Shaffer, Ericson have all played a decent amount. Baylor was a preview to a certain extent.

Overall, Georgia is still the most talented team in the division by a significant margin.

do not feel better than i was a year ago, but feeling better than i was a few days ago.

newman isn't going to have a cam newton season, but he seems to be a solid player, and it's impossible to argue that bringing him on is a bad thing for georgia.

That type of qb enabled uga to have 3 straight top 5 finishes. It would be silly to suddenly think there will be a massive drop off, as the gators tell us there will be, but I suppose it’s possible.

Different losses, but no more significant than previous losses.

Perhaps you are forgetting what we lost from the 2017 and 2018 teams. Some damn good players, and a lot of them, yet we still finished top 5.

Yeah I don’t see a big drop off because of that. I think for Georgia the key is how the OL comes around with Luke and not Pittman. Lost a lot there right? But I’m not buying a 7 win season for you. Probably 9 or 10 which with Florida, Bama and Auburn on the schedule is very respectable and to be honest is still a good team.

Bama adds difficulty to it, but auburn and Florida also lose a lot of talent, and we own them both. For some reason, it seems like people are forgetting that.

Newman is better than Stetson Bennett, which is what the question here really should be. UGA was headed for complete disaster, and Newman will at least be a band-aid.

Just a guess, because nobody really knows for sure...but I suspect Carson Beck would have started over Bennett.

I do think that Bennett is a pretty decent backup QB in today's environment.

Well, he's no Bo Nix, that's for sure.

What was it you guys were calling him before the season last year?

Cambo?

Nix missed an easy pass to cost them the game, and they trash uga anyways. The same team who lost to Stafford, Hutson, Greyson, Eason, and Fromm.

They aren’t mutually exclusive claims. Techies are so dumb.

The acc sucks but they can have good players who are held back by their situation of being stuck in the acc. See Wilson from the Seahawks.

They still hype him and tried their best to make excuses for why he wasn't great but suddenly will be next year.

247 "Ironically, all three of Newman's 300-yard games this fall — including a 401-yard effort — came during the first month of the season before Wake Forest began meeting up with ACC-level defenses."

The auburn guy who wants to excuse nix and kerryone also talks up wake forest talent.

Uga clearly doesn’t need a great qb to beat auburn and Florida, so you should fear decent qb play to go with our defense.

You have no defense. LSU already exposed how overrated they were. They got high stats from playing no offenses all year and mostly backup QBs.

As for Newman, he wasn't great in ACC play and padded his stat before conference play.
