Virginia Tech still had a 17-16 lead going into the final quarter of play

That's it. I felt really stressed out during that game. That was the era of "yards but no touchdowns"

They had 212 yards of offense on Saturday night. Of those 212 yards, 112 of them came on two plays - the 78 yard run and the 34 yard pass - which both occurred in the 1st quarter of play. Take those two off the stat sheet and VT has a mere 100 yards of total offense for the night.

Our defense is really, really good.

Virginia Tech's offense is really, really bad. They lost five seniors off a unit that ranked 87th in total offense last year, which is especially troubling given that they only faced ONE top 20 defense.

Who said anything about Virginia techs offense? That defense is littered with former five stars and future first rounders. They are going to be good no matter who is on the other side

I'm not quite sold on our defense. We look like we did last year. We held the score, but there were times where we missed tackles, didn't penetrate at all, gave up holes, and let receivers get open. VT really was awful. Thomas either overthrew it, or his receivers dropped it.

It reminded me of that Kent State game in 2011. We really were horrible in that game, and Virginia Tech is better than that Kent team was. I remember thinking "Richardson's a bust, can't be the #1 back" right after the game because these were his stats: 13 carries for 37 yards. He looked exactly how Yeldon and the others looked yesterday. Not to mention that in the Kent game we had like 4 INTs

I made a comparison to this game earlier today. Very similar in terms of oline play as well as the "the sky is falling" mentality afterwards.

I'm just saying that judging anyone's defensive prowess based on a game against Virginia Tech is probably misguided. I mean, their SOS was barely above that of many mid-majors last year and they averaged an atrocious 5.1 YPP.

Someone on the Bama board made mention, that every pass he threw looked like it was shot out of a cannon.

Bama still looks like they lack a game changing pass rusher. One thing I remember about our game against ya'll last year was I never really felt worried about someone coming off the edge and threatening the QB.

I think y'all are all missing the most important thing here- looks like Brandon Allen had the SECs highest qbr.

That is true, but the effort really wasn't there last night. I think we'll have a better ability up-front this year, more similar to 2011 where the LBs were used to generate pressure. If we're going 100%, we'll be fine up-front. I am still, despite the confidence from everyone else, worried about the secondary, but Geno Smith was out and he's one of our better (if not the best) DBs.

Who the hell cares about that? Alabama possessed probably the greatest pass rusher in the history of the college game in the late-80s and it didn't help us win a national championship.

Nick Saban without Derrick Thomas > Bill Curry with Derrick Thomas

Nick Saban with Derrick Thomas...... (just let that thought marinate a while)
