Hang in there, coach.

This has been about as bad a day as I can remember waking up to. Prayers for all who suffer.

I'm sure you get this a lot, but you suck.

Update 7:09 pm: I am told that Coach Stallings' ventilator has been removed and a stent placed in his heart. Doctors are confident that if things continue to improve the coach could recover fully

ICU nurses at DCH told stories of how he would come in on Sundays to visit patients, using a back entrance so as not to draw attention.
He helped expand the RISE program in Tuscaloosa (now housed in the Stallings Center), which focuses on children with special needs.
Daddy Gene is a great man.

Coach Stallings has got enough stories to fill volumes of books, and he's a great storyteller!

Prayers sent for Coach Stallings. You'll never find a classier person than him.

I graduated from A&M in '73, so I was there for the last 3 years of his tenure in Aggieland.
Thanks for the heads up regarding Coach Stallings. He is in our prayers.

I've said before it's going to be a sad day when the Stalling's, Dye's, Dooley's etc... of the world are gone. They are the last of their kind from the good ole days in the SEC.

Still the best man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

I was a walk on during his first year at UA. He convinced me in a short time that he was the right man for the job and cared about each and EVERYONE of his players, including me. I was heading to my position meeting room when I passed him in the hall. I said, "afternoon Coach!" He caught me off guard when he called me by name and then proceeded to ask me about my parents and little sister. He knew that both of my parents were educators and I was left just standing there all slack jawed. I stammered, "how?" He simply replied that it was his responsibility to know each and everyone of the people in his building. He made my day! Made me feel like I was an All American and not some walk on.
Prayers up for you Coach Stallings!!!

While Bear Bryant and Nick Saban may be Alabama's most successful coaches, Coach Stallings will always hold a special place in my heart as my favorite Bama coach.
My freshman year was his "freshman" year.
His first season started a little rocky and I had the pleasure of meeting him and shared with him how I came to Alabama from Florida and how I came there not knowing a soul but I knew Alabama was "home" for me and how much I loved it in just a few short weeks as a student.
He joked that if the results on the field didn't improve that I might last longer in Tuscaloosa than he would.
Fast forward 2 1/2 years to my junior year. Undefeated and eventual national champs. My then boyfriend (now husband) and I made the trip to Starkville and were in the crowd to watch the team walk to the stadium.
Somehow, Coach saw me and while he didn't remember my name, he looked at me and said "The Tallahassee Lassie!!! Looks like we both found our success!" and walked over and gave me a big hug. I introduced my boyfriend and he took a good two minutes to stop and just talk with two students. Thanked us for traveling to support the team and told us how special we were to him.
After he left, my boyfriend looked at me like I invented fire. He still tells that story and says that encounter was the final straw for him - he knew for sure he had to marry me after that.
They do not make them like Coach Stallings any more.
Roll Tide and get well soon, Coach. This Tallahassee Lassie is pulling for you!

That's a great story. I love Saban, but Stallings will always be my favorite Bama coach because of the father that he was/is, which every man should aspire to be.
