The largest market in the Big 12 outside of the Texas cities? Kansas City Unfortunately, Texas’ previous leadership either did not see this or see beyond the LHN dollars. We also had persons in leadership that cared zero about sports and would rather be in the PAC 12 so they could see their Berkeley buddies more. What’s great about the potential new SEC is you now have the flagship institutions in 2/3 most populous states in the US. This is a no doubter. Texas has no chance to “kill” a setup like this. We’re just happy to be part of the club.
^^^^^^All this right here is bullshite^^^^^^
Heard this same tripe when they came into the Big12. Now this poster may actually believe this & there may be some truth to it, but history doesn’t lie, use your eyes people. Texas is solely responsible for destroying 2 conferences. When the chickens invite, no pun intended Chicken, the fox into the hen house invariably it doesn’t work out to well for the chickens. F no, this will hurt LSU recruiting. Texas has more NIL clout and media bias and support marketing

I voted no… can’t stand Texas ego, don’t like things Bob Stoops. et Al. in OK, said in national media about the SEC… repeated over and over.
HOWEVER… there is a case to be made… that is scheduling.
The conference would split naturally into two eight team divisions. Given that divisional split, THERE WOULD BE NO STRONG CROSS-DIVISION RIVALRIES that would require honoring with “permanent opponent” status.
This means sensible scheduling… assuming 9 game SEC schedule, each team plays 7 division games, 2 cross division games, and 3 OOC games … enough games to accommodate OOC rivalries.
AND… every team plays all others in conference at least once every 4 years.
AND it preserves the SEC championship game and the prestige of being SEC champion… hence enhances the importance of conference rather than “national” play.
I still vote no because “it ain’t broke.” And I feel we have screwed MO and A&M but …
…I think they will become a force in the SEC to help keep Texas in their place. And the scheduling solves a long-standing SEC issue.
Whatever…

Mega conferences are happening so you might as well grab the best. I’m good with this move.

Exactly my point. Texas only cares about Texas. Texas did not let the BIG12 expand to increase its geographic footprint and add additional media markets on at least three different occasions in the past ten years. It could have easily added Colorado State and Boise State back in 2010 when Nebraska and Colorado left. That would have preserved the Denver media market and added a potential new power program (Boise State) to the conference. It could have also gone east and raided the BIG EAST to get WVU and PITT. That would have added solid teams and a media market. However Texas thought that not having a conference championship game would make it easier for a Big12 team to get into the BCSCG o. Plus Texas had the LHN so it did not care if it cost the conference money by losing the CCG. Even after being proven wrong in 2011 when not having a CCG cost OSU a shot a birth in the BCSCG; Texas still refused to let the BIG12 expand back to 12 teams. Pitt was off the table at that point but the Big12 still could have added Louisville in addition to WVU and possibly gotten ND to join or do a deal with the Big12 like it eventually made with the ACC, and if not then could have added Cincy which was a strong team at the time and brought a decent sized media market with it. All of those moves would have also brought back the CCG which would bring back money and have helped either Baylor or TCU get into the CFB playoffs in 2014. Texas also blocked expansion back in 2016 which would have gotten the conference a conference network and the $$$ from that. Texas didn't care about the conference because it was making $$$ from the LHN and because Texas like Oklahoma had enough brand name power to get it a spot in the CFB playoff if it was good enough. The rest of the conference be damned.

Oh how the mighty have fallen if that really is the mood in Austin and it's not just Texas and its fans trying to place nice until they join the club.

Texas will not have undue influence over the SEC. I think those concerns are unwarranted.
If Texas tries the others will just show them the door. It is as simple as that.
The SWC and Big 12 didn’t have that luxury.

No.... but I understand the argument that if we don't do it,
some other conference will.
some other conference will.

The conference has been mired in mediocrity for a while. All of y’all who are pissed about bringing on some new blood are some pussies.

Lol UTA blew up all your Big 8 rivalries and tried to take you to the Pac12.
I don't get why OU fans slobber the knob of the horns.
OU would be welcomed in the SEC, come on your own.

It's up to 51.5% now. Those posters are not afraid to play against Texas or have to recruit against Texas. 51.5% of the posters here do not want to put with the baggage that Texas brings with them and the headache(s) that admitting Texas to the conference will eventually and inevitably cause.

What does this have to do with anything? How about the surly horns bitches go independent and form a confederacy with ND? I like that idea.
Posted on 7/24/21 at 4:13 pm to TrueLefty
So they tried the Pac 12 first? That is telling.
