Playing devils advocate here: Aren't college players pros now anyway?

I am pretty sure revenue sharing with the schools athletic departments would count. Every other element seems to be met as well.
So as a Devil's Advocate, what is really stopping them from going to the NFL and coming back? The argument of "amateurism" is kind of shot now. And rules don't really apply anymore anyway.
College sports are dead.

Are you just listing the issues? Because also the transfer portal shouldnt open until after title game IMO

The problem is the NCAA can't enforce any of its rules, apparently and the conferences are selectively enforcing what rules they enforce.

It's a crazy situation. Some of those Canadian pros could outplay some of these college players that make much more than them.Cignetti could probably easily field a championship team with just NFL camp cuts only that were free agents or 6th and 7th round picks.

NIL should not have been implemented before creating rules governing portal and eligibility.
Too many different competing interests from TV to conferences to player agents that has made it next to impossible to come to any consensus on anything.
NCAA Football should be one entity to itself with one person in charge
NCAA Basketball should be one entity to itself with one person in charge
No more conferences in theses sports
Minor sports should be able to fund and sustain their own sports and not piggyback off football and baseball and probably should go back to amateur status with full scholarships with minimal rosters.

Right. I get Ole Miss respecting Jayden by getting Chambliss a 6th year, but if they go the punishment route and the 6th year granted by a homer judge isn’t addressed, the SEC will get sued and lose. Not by LSU, but by an affected athlete.

Yeah. The NCAA may lose every court case to eternity.
But College Football needs to get a handle on it. So the conferences have to take charge.

I really have a problem with some of them. But I really dont see how some teams can get players from others while the games are still being played. Obviously teams still in the hunt arent worrying about portal yet. And it then it caused what we saw last year with kiffin leaving early

Sure. A school can leave a conference. But good luck trying to put the schedule together.

Yes. The innocence of college athletics, namely football, is gone. I don't want to hear "don't bad mouth him he's just a kid". That goes out the window when you start being compensated.

The conferences can if they get to together and agree on the ground rules in a FAIR and CONSISTENT manner.

It seems like every new issue that comes up gets met with “college football is dead”
But when are people going to actually process that sentence and understand that the old college football really is dead and we’re not going back. The eligibility stuff may get reigned in a little but it’s never going back to the way it used to be.

What happens if the top 5 or 6 schools from each conference decide to break away and form their own league? They would have to pay some penalties to the conferences I'm sure but that would be the end of that. That league could name it's price as far as tv money goes.
That's where this is all heading. A full blown NFL minor league.
