This is why I'm sending them to that shitty chinese buffet. I don't go to Columbia often for work but when I do (usually about 3-4 times a year), I like to go to the good places without the riff raff.

There's a really super cheap Chinese buffet by the interstate north of the campus. That might be it.

Are you talking about the place that also runs a bus service between Columbia and St Louis? I thought that they had closed?

And to answer OP's question, most of the good places have been named. 44 Stone, Flat Branch, Como Smoke and Fire, and I'll also nominate Truman's on West Broadway for a good burger and a solid breakfast buffet if you're in that kind of mood.

Go to CC's City Broiler and get a great meal; one of the best steak places in the country. They don't take reservations and seating is limited. I think they open at 5pm and there is usually a line when the place opens.

They do take reservations now.

Shakespeare is pretty damn good I thought. Unless it went downhill the past few years.

It’s still good, but it thrives off reputation plus they’ve added two locations in town & tore down the original then rebuilt it in the exact same spot downtown, but added student penthouse condos above it. I’m local so we have no desire to spend $30/$40 on pizza w/ a 45-60 minute wait...it ain’t that good.

Yeah, not that great. We just walked in for lunch and it wasn't super busy. Probably the old location though.

Going to Columbia tomorrow. What is the best place to eat for a first timer?

All the places my fellow Tiger fans mentioned are good. If you want cheap and still good, G&D Pizza and Steakhouse on the corner of Stadium and Broadway is pretty good. Always packed.

Take a trip down to Jeff City for an incredible BBQ joint at Sweet Smoke, it is off the chain legit great bbq. Shakespeares is good but overrated. Best burger I have had in COMO since we moved here is Mad Cow. Also a big fan of Billard’s on Broadway for simple bar food, especially their pork Tenderlion.
