There's a really super cheap Chinese buffet by the interstate north of the campus. That might be it.

TGIFridays make sure you ask for Linda. You're welcome.

For good bbq, I am a big fan of Como Smoke and Fire (not as good as a StL or KC top restaurant but pretty darn good nonetheless)...for all around good food, I'd say D. Rowe's or Flatbranch. I'd lean toward D. Rowe's although Flatbranch does have their own beer.
For one of the best steaks in the Midwest, CC's City Broiler is fantastic. My other favorite upscale option in town is Barred Owl Butcher & Table.
Best cheap-ish meal would be Tacqueria Don Pancho. Also without a doubt the nicest folks in town. Oh, and Booche's if you want a Columbia landmark; Shakespeare's is fine but nothing amazing (but if you do go get pepper cheese on your pizza---best topping).
Now, my favorite thing to do when the weather is nice (and this weekend is going to be gorgeous) is go to Logboat Brewing Company and have a few beers on their lawn. Place will be pretty busy, but they've got a big lawn you can sit on and have some brews made right there; they also usually have food trucks: Logboat

Go to CC's City Broiler and get a great meal; one of the best steak places in the country. They don't take reservations and seating is limited. I think they open at 5pm and there is usually a line when the place opens.

This right here! I live in BoCoMo & everything this fine gentleman said was spot on. I’m originally from KC & CoMo is damn good bbq, plus they have the best Bloody Mary’s in town by a long shot. An added bonus is it’s outside of city limits so NO masks restrictions & would recommend a Mo. culinary tradition the pork steak, doesn’t get any better than a Mo. Pork steak. If you can’t tell I’m a regular
Warning: Pork Steak is served on a pizza platter

Flat Branch
It's been a while but they had a great selection of beers and their food was excellent.

You’re spot on! Beer & food always top notch, I will add they already had a large patio, but w/ the ‘Rona they’ve expanded their outdoor seating into the side & back parking lot. Grab a CoMo brewed IPA & try the ‘Chokes & cheese.

Get some tiger stripe ice cream while you’re at it.
Recommend booches as well. More like sliders in size but easy to pack them away.
The Vault is still technically a Speakeasy but has some interesting little bites to eat. More finger food to eat with your drinks but good.
Flat Branch is definitely a town favorite as mentioned.
Can confirm Shakespeare’s Pizza is meh. It’s the atmosphere that’s good. I enjoy Wiseguys more which should still be run out of a bar.
For “fancier” stuff you might not typically get recommendations for but which I enjoy.
44 Stone.
Addison’s.
Sophia’s.

The best place in Columbia is probably Waffle House.
And I say that as someone who has never been to Columbia.

You’re not even a good Piglet troll. What purpose does your existence serve?

Come on dude you can’t be giving up local knowledge, next thing you know, you’ll be dropping a dime on Murry’s. Gotta keep the riff-raff out of the townie hotspots.
Would be a mistake to not mention DRowe’s. good food, great smoked wings & he’s a buddy of mine. But if you’re looking for a place with the complete history of MU sports as well as KC & STL sports memorabilia DRowe’s is it. Dave played D tackle at MU & his dad played professionally for the old STL. Cardinals(NFL) so if you can hang it on a wall it’s there.
