This is one sad but odd incident. Has anyone seen any mention of if the Brambletts had on seatbelts? Knowing that intersection I don’t see how they could have and not survived.

Auburn police have ruled out the use of a phone as a contributing factor in the cause of a crash that killed Auburn broadcaster Rod Bramblett and his wife Paula on Saturday evening.
Police also noted that alcohol was not a contributing factor, though that had been announced almost immediately on Saturday night.
“Although additional information is being examined,” the police statement said, “the preliminary investigation has not determined that alcohol or distractive phone usage was a contributing factor.”

Rob Pate stated he heard the kid fell asleep at the wheel. Had spent a day at the lake and was heading home.

I'm curious about the seatbelt thing as well.
It's a tragic accident and I really wonder how it could happen.

The crash probe will include an examination of crash and vehicle data, toxicology, accident reconstruction, as well as a determination of speed or other contributing factors. Investigators confirmed the Brambletts were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

That seems like the most plausible explanation at this point.

When its ones time to go, its their time to go. Unfortunate and sad, but that is life.

A lot of people were wrong in that initial thread.
Prayers to the kid. Her life will forever be fricked up.

So it was a girl that hit them?

Same. I was rear-ended awhile back and thankfully my car, at the time, had automatic seatbelts. I was at a red with two cars in front of me at a complete stop and a kid rear ended me going 40+ mph. The force was so great I went forward, and then broke my seat coming back. My car pushed the trunk over in the car in front of me, and that car messed up the one in front. The car that hit me was completely disabled, airbag off, and fkd up. Surprisingly, my car was still driveable. Was not fun though and I was hurting bad.

That’s what I’ve told too. Kid just fell asleep and drifted into their lane.

Another important bit of information, that I've mentioned before, is the height of their headrests.
Headrests are paramount to head and neck safety when hit from behind.
If they are set too low, which often people do, the head rests will not offer the whiplash protection.
Now, I've heard that their SUV rolled, and it's possible that a misadjusted head rest may not have been detrimental or a contributing cause of death.
Regardless, I recommend each of you to check your head rest setting. Your head rest's center should be even with your back of head's center

As tragic as this is that’s why people need to pump the brakes on berating this kid. He is a 16 yr old who will live with this mistake the rest of his life. His plight is not much easier than the unfortunate children they left behind. I’m just saying compassion should be considered when anyone of us could do the same thing.

It doesn’t have to be. Autonomous vehicles could save countless lives.

Good point. I remember a couple in my home town 30+ years ago, was driving down a four lane highway 60 MPH, and a boulder dislodged along the road and landed directly on their car, killing both. Their number was up.
