For Gods sake. Please don't try this young person on this f/n. board. Having lived through a similar deal with friends and family, this banter serves no purpose. God bless the Bramblett's and the other poor soul involved in the ACCIDENT!

This is one sad but odd incident. Has anyone seen any mention of if the Brambletts had on seatbelts? Knowing that intersection I don’t see how they could have and not survived.

You seen a pic of the wreck?

(Don't have access but was shown one on a Bama pay-site yesterday.)

I'm curious about the seatbelt thing as well.

They said on the news last night they were wearing their seat belts

This is such a sad sad sad situation for everyone involved. Unfortunately there were a few people in the original thread who assumed the kid was texting and were ready to call him a murderer with no information. It's going to be really really hard for him going foward; not nearly as much as for the Bramblett kids but still difficult.

I guess now is a good time to remember that if you're extremely tired, it's always a good idea to stop and get coffee, walk around, or to call someone and see if they can help get you home. God knows I've driven when I was extremely tired from a relative's house or football game or what have you, hopefully I will remember this if I'm ever in a situation like that again.

And humans don’t? Not a very solid argument against autonomous vehicles. Think about the number of lives that could be saved from DWI, texting and driving, or falling asleep at the wheel.

Autonomous vehicles can only be as good as the conditions of the roadway. If they can't see the striping, signs, signals, etc., then they are fairly useless.

Agreed. It still a ways off, but will be a reality at some point.

What? They got rearended.

Yes they got rear ended. They were stopped at a traffic light on Shug Jordan Parkway.

In this Google Picture you will see the crosswalk pole. They hit that and took it out. They would have been headed from the right to the left. There are no skid marks at the intersection. It is not official, but they believe the young driver fell asleep after two days at the lake.

What type of collision was it?

Head on, t-bone or rear end?

Well, yeah, until they go Skynet on us and start driving baws to Sonic to beat each other to death.

Think, man.

So, both vehicles were heading south. That takes the theory of the sun being in the eyes of the 16 year old at 6PM.

Still, I reiterate, it's not so much seatbelts in wrecks like these, it's positioning of the headrests.

Story contradicts itself. Says it wasn’t a factor but then says it’s still under investigation.

No it doesn't. You can rule something out while still investigating the real reason.

I dabble with AI and they are much more reliable than humans, who crash way more often.

An AI isn't going to fall asleep at the wheel, they aren't going to be distracted for any number of reasons.

Automated cars will make auto travel as safe as air travel.

The crash probe will include an examination of crash and vehicle data, toxicology, accident reconstruction, as well as a determination of speed or other contributing factors.

Auburn's inept police department will be doing this? We will never know the real cause unless the state gets involved.

Did anyone happen to see a picture of the wrecked vehicles?
It just sounds so strange that the impact from behind would cause 2 deaths. I don't think internal injuries would be the cause if both had on their seat belts. I could see maybe a broken neck?
